Anyone here ever tried to make a film, or even write a screenplay? That's shit's hard. I think if people want to focus their negative energy in a positive way - let's call out the greedy suits who know nothing about films or filmmaking, set arbitrary deadlines for the sole reason of wanting money sooner rather than later and are willing to sacrifice long term quality for short term gains.

Of course it's hard. It's a miracle any movie ever works. Still, it's hard to make an airplane fly, but we sort of expect the people at Boeing to do it right. As for greedy suits, the plain fact is movies like this cost well north of $100 million, and the longer a studio sits on that debt before trying to earn their money back, the more trouble they're in. It's just the nature of the beast.

We walked in with low expectations ( me mostly expecting to NOT hear the score) but all around found it to be a pleasant surprise. Not a home run but, it was fun. Sam Rockwell never disappoints, and the pacing was pretty brisk.

Debney's score got better treatment than I'd thought - although yes it was buried lots of times in the mix, it got a good workout in spots, the main titles were very nice. Good to see John attached to a blockbuster. Or a blockbuster I'd actually gone to see.

And Scarlett Johannson, yum and yummier.

This is rather peculiar... a COMPLETE score release?

Tentative cover art, perhaps?

This was posted under the listing for the AC/DC album, which is only weirder.

That's a customer cover. That guy has a whole bunch of custom 500x500 customer image covers for "expanded" releases. It's not official.

Debney's score for IM2 really wasn't anything special. A lot of it was buried under the sound mix, and it shone occasionally. The end fight scene with Scarlett Johannson and Jon Favreau had some great underscore, as well as the final fight between the Iron Men and Whiplash.

Not Cutthroat Island, sadly.

Thats precisley why it wasn't special...in the film. On CD, its a terrific score by Debney and I believe one of hie best. I think the sound mixers with IM2 completly screwed Mr Debney on this. I really hope people give it a chance, not based on the film and that maybe the mix was a mistake and that it gets fixed for Bluray.

Haven't seen the film but was lucky enough to hear Debney's score... and wow, impressive stuff! Big brass, great themes, amazing choral work... and what really struck me was if Goldsmith was alive today and scoreed this film, it would sound exactly the same! Good stuff!

Quite a bold statement to be comparing Debney (who I don't care for) with Goldsmith.

You probably didn't care for Debney's score for "The Passion Of The Christ" (in my opinion one of the worst for a Biblical epic). On the other hand, I liked Debney's score for "Iron Man 2".

Huh. Not much discussion of the score, was there? Unless it was in another thread that didn't turn up in search.

You know, this score didn't stand out on first listen, but it's been getting a lot more replay from me than most of this year's scores (though I did program out "Make Way For Tomorrow" (both versions) and "Gun Show"). Its big liability is that the theme doesn't show up 'til the end -- this is the second movie in a series; the character should have a usable theme by now! Otherwise, though, the action set pieces are a lot of fun and the brooding Russian stuff works and the whole thing never drags too much or really outstays its welcome. It's not a masterpiece, but it is Debney's best since LAIR and has, I think, been a little too overlooked.

Actually the theme appears at 5:18 minutes into Mayhem in Monaco.

D'oh! Just making sure you were paying attention. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

My point stands.

The first week after I got this score, I listened to it non-stop. Since, I still listen to it often.

I've become quite fond of this score and think it's the best action score to have come out of the Summer movie season. I was also pleasantly surprised to get the Iron Man 2 DVD and find the score has been mixed up much louder than I remember it being in the theatre. I appreciated the score much more in context this time around.

This one gets frequent plays from me as well. One of my favorites of the summer movie scores.

Took me this long to finally get this score. It freaking rocks! While I am not a fan of the film itself, the music, which was drowned out for the most part, is really fun. Very muscular and the "I Am Iron Man" cue (unheard in the film) is addictive. If I ever have a prizefighting bout, that's gonna be my entrance music.

This is exactly how I feel about the cue "Sledgehammer v2" smile
