This just showed up on David Arnold's FACEBOOK page

"Episode 1 of 3 'Sherlock' , new BBC 90 minute Drama by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss will be broadcast Sunday 25th July.Music by me and Michael Price. Its really good..promise"

Just so everyone understands, this is a rethink of Sherlock Holmes set in in 21st MODERN LONDON..

I find this promo video on YOUTUBE that looks awesome and I wanted to share it, but just after I viewed it BBC had it taken down, DAMN!

However, after viewing it, I can't wait to see the show.

Thank you for the heads up on this. Here is a link to the BBC Press information:

It looks like they have cast Watson in keeping with the athletic character portrayed in the books -- excellent!

Now off to Google to see if any US showings are scheduled!

Was hoping Debbie Wiseman might have done this. Her music for The Moff's Jekyll was excellent, if a little repetetive.

It should be on one of the PBS stations or BBC America.

It will air in the US on PBS' Masterpiece Classic or Masterpiece Mystery! at some undetermined point in the future (probably not until 2011).

Quite entertaining. Good comic performances and a fun mystery. A bit like Dr Who without Daleks and whatnot. The theme and score was clearly inspired by Hans Zimmer's Sherlock score.

I just watched the first episode, and despite reservations quite enjoyed it. It seemed to have quite a 'cinematic' feel to some of the photography, which made it more enjoyable to watch on the aesthetic front. The dynamic between the two main characters - Holmes and Watson - felt well thought out, and the actors seemed to carry it convincingly (at least to my way of thinking).

I couldn't make out a great deal of variation in the incidental music, there seemed to be one principle theme being used. I'm not aware of a CD being produced?

I saw on David arnold's twitter Account that his music for the pilot was recorded on February 2009 so it was not clearly inspired it seems.

I have yet to hear it but hope there will be a soundtrack in the future

Indeed. Incredibly similar!

A good little show I thought. All hail "The Moff!"

Indeed there is an unaired pilot dating back to beginning of last year (it will be on the dvd/blu release) which dates it before Zimmer's score. Arnold himself states that it was recorded before the film.
Odd that both composers went in the same direction. Could Zimmer have heard any of it ?

No one will ever know.

I saw this last night and found it a very enjoyable way to spend a Suday evening.

The music reminded me of John Barry's "Persuaders" theme.

Is one of the labels (Silva, Varèse, LaLaLand?) working on a score release for this? Please say yes.

Hi Chris

Been watching this series. Didnt have high hopes but the critics previews in the papers were promising and on watching the episodes, I was pleasantly surprised.
Cumberbatch played a good part - eccentric, rude and weird - and although I am no fan of Arnold, I thought the music was decent. In fact, I noticed the music during screening before I knew it was Arnold, so I cant take it away from him, he did a good job. You're right, shades and hints of John Barry there - exactly what I thought when watching the episodes.

I also saw the aforementioned Ritchie's Holmes on DVD recently, I actually liked the Zimmer music - screamed Maurice Jarre at me.

I've been watching the series and the music doesn't seem all that special. It is mostly repetition of beats with little in the form of melodies. It fits with the show but I don't see myself listening to it separately.

I only notice the music when the jaunty main theme kicks in, otherwise it just sounds like the usual bland drone zone. It's co-composed by that guy he worked with on HOT FUZZ.
I quite enjoyed the first episode, but not so much the second.
I've yet to see the last one, although I've heard it's the best one from some people.

On a slightly related note, it's really pissed me off that the BBC axed SURVIVORS after 2 series, citing cost versus ratings issues (!!!??) and then ploughed all the money they could have spent on a 3rd series of SURVIVORS on that piece of dreck called THE DEEP, which is actually worse then the lame Nick Nolte/Jackie Bissett film that came out in the 70's.
I pray for the end of the TV license fee. I'm sure the ConDems will be making some cuts very soon.

Wow, what kind of stinker of a mood are you in today? I'm no fan of any modern film or TV music but I thought Sherlock's score shone in many places and it was always more than a drone.

Praying for the end of the licence fee? So the BBC will become as bad as the commercial channels. Roulette phone-ins after midnight. Endless imports of American cop-car-chase garbage. Yeah, I look forward to it. GO CON-DEMS!

If you're happy paying for all those Director Generals and their minions to go gallavanting around the world, so be it!
In this day and age, the license fee is as antiquated as the House of Lords!
I'm not saying BBC don't produce some good stuff, but so do some other channels, and they don't force me to pay for it.
