In preparing the contents of the upcoming TIM BURTON & DANNY ELFMAN 25TH ANNIVERSARY MUSIC BOX, you are invited to post suggestions on this thread of which specific cues from Burton/Elfman films you would recommend for possible inclusion in expanding the scores beyond the contents of their originally released soundtrack albums.

Thank you in advance for your input.

Also, you can sign up for the mailing list at www.BurtonElfman.com to receive updates on this project.

Thank you,

Richard Kraft

If LLL doesn't get to it first, I would love to have the cue from BATMAN RETURNS where Batman drives into Gotham and breaks up the clown riot...

I'd love to see the full Main Title cue from Sleepy Hollow.

Also, the cue for Masbath's funeral was a really nice piece left off the CD.

The cue I most desperately want is when Edward Bloom sees Sandra for the first time in the circus and time stops from "Big Fish". I was heartbroken when I discovered that wasn't on the OST.

Hey richard, thanks for letting us participate. But i have a question: Lalaland has just released an expanded score for batman and mv said they would do the same thing for batman returns. Will this box just include the lalaland editions of both scores or their original soundtrack albums plus some selected bonus tracks from the lalaland editions?

If it were up to me, everything that could fit but without anything that Lalaland is releasing on the two Batman releases (or alternatively, EVERYTHING on those).

But yeah, that's not gonna happen.

^This!!!

Other than that, my first impulse is to say everything but I don't know what the deal is, between the amount of room available, LLL's expanded Batman albums, and any other variables that might come up.

I don't want expansions of ANY Elfman/Burton soundtracks, to be honest.

However, I would like to see:

STAINBOY
ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS: THE JAR (beyond the track on the MFADT compilation)
MOMA - both for film segments and the music that played in the gallery
BEETLEJUICE (more music from the TV show)
PEE WEE'S PLAYHOUSE (more music from the TV show)
FAMILY DOG (I know that Burton produced at least one episode of the AMAZING STORIES character)

Otherwise, the unreleased Elfman stuff that I desire has no Burton relation.

How much music did Elfman write for the TV show?

I have no idea, but I've heard that he wrote more than just the theme.

I want as little previously released music as possible!
Because of the fact that many people have the original soundtracks already, I think the more unreleased material, the more people will buy this set.

If that would be feasible, it would be great if you could take ALL the unreleased music from the Elfman-Burton films, and then make 'Volume 2's out of it - thus only including a few obligatory released tracks from the regular soundtracks to make nice albums out of them.

And if I would have to focus on particular cues:
- it would be great if the complete "The Landing" from Mars Attacks! could be released; including the portions that were edited out of the soundtrack version.
- the complete "Christmas Eve Montage" from Nightmare before Christmas, again including the unreleased material.

Let me expand a bit on my comments above, as it's really a "make or break" issue for me.

I absolutely HATE having recording duplication.I don't know why so many people don't mind, but it seems very silly to own the exactly same thing over and over. So with Lalaland releasing the much expanded Batman -- which ITSELF has much duplication -- having it all AGAIN on the box means I'd very likely have to give up one or the other. Especially in light of Batman Returns coming as well.
If the box, however, had everything the Lalaland releases have (or at least, everything MINUS the original album versions), then that'd be a HUGE incentive toward buying it.
Same thing to a lesser extent with Pee-Wee -- if the rerecording were included, then either it's skip the box, or give up the CD which also has Back to School on it (not a huge loss, granted...)
But I'm always fully willing to buy something to REPLACE an old one. So I'd be buying Lala's Batman, and simply selling off the old album. This isn't a problem. The problem comes when both offer too much unique content and one has to keep both. As I said, for whatever reason most people don't seem to mind this, but it's a big issue with me (especially with my number of CDs and the room I have for them).

As for 'including everything', well I know it's probably not possible, but how much extra (or alternatively,l how much unable to add) are we talking here? I mean, I'd love the full scores for Pee-Wee (especially that little source music that Elfman talks over in the commentary) and Beetlejuice. Corpse Bride too, though that's not missing much judging by the ISO score. Hmmm....will Nightmare even be included at all as Burton didn't actually direct it? And what of Alice, as it's from this year?

I doubt my own tastes will be taken into consideration. but hey the OP *did* ask, right? Eh, I just think if FSM were doing it, they'd do their best to give it all they could, but obviously there's probably monetary issues here, as well as if it's coming out this fall, there's time issues too...

And Thor, Family Dog would have been on one of the Intrada releases of Amazing Stories, but they couldn't find it, so all that's known to exists is what's on MFADT2.

I know. We can still dream, though....

instead of me that I'd like absolutely an expanded Beetlejuice.
But be careful: DO NOT OMIT the Belafonte's songs, their are a fundamental building block of the score and plot.

Like others before me have said, it would really help to know how much room for expansion there is in this box set. If it will cover all of Elfman's and Burton's collaborations, and not just the WB ones, then there's really only room for 1 CD per score. Correct?

With that being said, I would like the scores to be as expanded as possible. I'm not familiar enough with most of the films to give specific scene requests, but I'd very much like a complete Beetlejuice and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Mr. Kraft, thanks for such a considerate and consumer-friendly move! Can't tell you how excited I am about this box set and the fact that you're soliciting input!!

Couple questions first:

-Is each movie getting a single disc (or has this been determined yet)?
-How will Batman, Returns & Mars Attacks compare with the LaLaLand releases?
-Are non-Danny Elfman composed songs still going to be included? (I would personally hope they be left off, but I suspect they might be contractually required...)

Off the top of my head, music I've missed from current releases:

-The 'combo' street band source music from Nightmare Before Christmas + ANYTHING unreleased!
-The Penguin crashing the party (coming out of the ground in his duck boat) from Batman Returns
-Main Titles from Alice In Wonderland
-I second the previous comment regarding the music from the meeting of Edward Bloom and Sandra in Big Fish, plus I don't remember the music from the 'witch' sequence at the beginning of the film being on the original album
-Another yes for the Original recording of Pee-Wee
-Planet of the Apes film version of tracks (if any different)

Also, I for one would love to hear some alternate versions of cues if there are any Elfman feels are worthwhile!

Please let us know when the cut-off date for input is and I will happily go back and watch the movies again for further suggestions.

Let me second / third the original film tracks for PEE WEE's BIG ADVENTURE. The happy go lucky cue for when he first arrives at Third Street Promenade has long been on my personal want list.
