Whoever said they don't get Friedhofer should try The Best Years of Our Lives, one of the very best scores ever written by anybody in any decade.

If you have heard it and still don't get Friedhofer . . . well, I don't even want to think about that.

I don't understand how anyone doesn't "get" Friedhofer. He was one of the all-time greats, he wrote great themes, his music works perfectly in the movies the music was composed for - I honestly don't understand it, so maybe someone would like to explain it to me.

Review here: http://www.runmovies.eu/index.php?option=com_muscol&view=album&id=498

I thought it would useful to do a breakdown of the tracks for the complete score as presented on the CD, compared to the music contained in the film.

Is this link still working?

I don't either. But then I was hooked as soon as I bought this score, which I believe my first or up there. And I was hooked from the first listen of the samples. OEJ is one of my top Friedhofer scores in my collection and one I return to regularly as well.

Friedhofer is great and colorful.....but I must admit I got the same "feelings " some folks here have towards Friedhofer about David Raskin. He is undoubtedly a great arranger abut I found his scores..yes even LAURA..not very strong compared to others...

About Raksin . . . believe it or not, Frank Zappa was a friend and fan of Raksin's. And, according to Raksin, when the RCA deal to record his great album fell through when the exec who was spearheading it died, Raksin told Zappa about it. Zappa made a call, and shortly thereafter RCA came back to Raksin to record David Raksin Conducts His Great Film Scores.

I can't believe anyone can't believe someone isn't into a certain composer.
It's all a matter of taste!

EDIT: it's also possible to love One score by a composer, e.g. BYOUOL, and.nothing else.

I started a whole thread about this phenomenon.
