After so many years of waiting and hoping for even one more disc of Ron Jones's music, of fantasizing about which episode might possibly be featured, we have been offered fourteen discs of Ron Jones music from TNG, virtually everything Jones composed! I listen to these scores and find so much richness, so much creative talent which I never imagined before, even though I was quite literally watching the episodes for years just to listen for what Ron Jones was doing. I mean, who would ever bother watching The Royale for any other reason, right? Thank you FSM! Thank you Lucas Kendall! Thank you Ron Jones!!

If anyone is still on the fence about this release, take it from me- I'm unemployed right now in this economic downturn and poor as a pauper, but this was the best possible investment! Who needs food when you can listen to Ron Jones? I was very disappointed to hear that some illegal downloading is going on. If anyone reading this has taken part, make good and buy the set. You're only hurting the chances for later releases if you don't.

Ahem, so with all of this off my chest. . . who else is ready for Duck Tales?? As a kid watching that show after school, I was always taken with the music-- I'd hum it to myself when the TV was off and even dream about it! Wouldn't it be grand for Ron Jones, the self-proclaimed (and in my opinion aptly titled) "Jerry Goldsmith Jr", to have another box set release? These releases are a long time coming, and I can't imagine a more appropriate candidate than Duck Tales! Does anyone else here have fond memories, specific episodes that come to mind?

Does anyone else want to tell him that Disney isn't licensing their animation scores yet, or should I?

I actually wanted to post a similar thread but then I saw Lukas' news about the illegal filesharing and the slow sales on the TNG set and thought it might be out of place to post about more Ron Jones projects. Now that the sea has calmed down, here goes.

Like yourself, I enjoyed watching the series on television back in the day and was always impressed with the quality of writing and the overall sound. I too hope for a soundtrack release of this, not just out of nostalgia but because the music is so good. And I don't buy the "disney wont release anything" argument.

For those who bought the TNG boxset and like the action cues, you might be interested in this as there are many similarities, some of this is even more full fledged than TNG due to it being a cartoon score, it steers more towards mickey mousing while retaining that funky 80's action vibe. No Berman on this show wink

You might want to change that "yet" to "ever" (The Great Mouse Detective notwithstanding). And no, the re-recording of The Black Cauldron doesn't count.

I just recently read an interview with RJ, where he talks about the music of "DuckTales." While he wrote a great deal of music for the series, it was mostly in the form of library cues based on characters, environments and scenarios -- meaning it almost certainly wouldn't require 14 CDs to display! We're probably talking 2-4 CDs, max ... although that's admittedly just a wild guess on my part. Would a shorter length improve the chances of a release? I have no idea.

I'd buy it quicker than two shakes of a duck's tail, though, that's for sure. smile Jones' approach of treating the cartoon characters like "real people having real adventures" (to paraphrase the composer) worked wonders!

What can I say-- for years I thought something like the Ron Jones Project could only exist in my wildest fantasies, so I can't help but think that anything is possible. . . even if it may take some time and much politicking. And Wedge is right-- only a few discs would be needed to capture the real "Ron Jones" essence of the series. Rones said that he wrote the music for Duck Tales with the presumption that the audience was "intelligent" and capable of digesting serious music. I think there was more substance to his music in a half-hour Duck Tales episode than one finds in most major movie scores today. Here's to dreaming for the impossible! Guess it worked once, so maybe again?

Oh yes!! i loved that show as a kid!
A special edition with the music would be most than welcomed!
That and the music of Thundercats too!

Can't remember anything of the music (except the theme - dubbed to Norwegian), but DUCK TALES is a nostalgic pleasure from my youth. I'd definitely check a release out, if it ever came to pass (but then again, it's Disney and all that).

"Rones" is his abbreviated name? big grin I agree completely, that show's music had a high standard as opposed to some of the others at that time and definitely some of the scores today. Not to mention it had a strong Indiana Jones vibe due to the mystery/adventure nature of Scrooge's trips.

I think the library tracks Jones composed wont exceed the 2 disc length. Some of the later episodes did feature less involving synth based cues, obviously composed by someone to fill in the blanks where Jones' music didn't fit.

Rones....LOL! big grin

By the way, how is his music for FAMILY GUY? Worthy of release too?

I'd be most eager for a release of Jones' music from Duck Tales. I just wouldn't mind waiting a few months for my wallet to recover as well.

What about David Newman's wonderful Ducktales the movie score, or Christopher Stone's Talespin and Giffin/McNeely's Darkwing Duck scores? John Debney did a brilliant score around the time Ducktales first aired for Goofy in Soccermania. That would be welcome, too.

This thread needs to be bumped. I was watching the treasure of the golden suns episodes the other day and the music truly is outstanding. Go for it Intrada!

There won't be a release anytime soon. Roger commented on it at Intrada I think last year (I can't seem to locate the post at the moment), saying while it's possible to do, it's just not something they are perusing, and are working on other Disney titles.

A pity this isn't being pursued. There's not enough Ron Jones on CD.

Well hopefully they can start churning out those Disney titles faster until Duck Tales rises to the top of the queue!

Hey, guys! Bumping this for a few reasons:

One, I've had enough of not being able to listen to the incredible score I love, without having to also put up with the sound effects and dialogue. I've created a petition to get the Ron Jones DuckTales score released on CD, and it really needs signatures! I refuse to let this thing fall into obscurity. So please sign it:

https://www.change.org/petitions/disney-records-and-or-intrada-release-the-complete-music-score-for-ducktales-and-other-disney-afternoon-shows-on-cd-2

Second reason I've bumped this thread: You guys might be interested in this episode-by-episode list I've put together:

http://kenisu.webs.com/ducktalesbgm.htm

It's basically a great big cue sheet, documenting what music was used in the first 75 episodes of DuckTales. Please note that since I don't know (yet) what the real names are for each cue, I had to come up with my own for now.

Third, here's the Intrada thread mentioned earlier:

http://www.intrada.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5285&p=62423

Several posts into page 1, Douglass Fake explains what their Disney license entails. User tharpdevenport then comes in and says:

Having said all that, is there even a remote chance for something like a 2 or 3CD set of "Ducktales" (Ron Jones, and the pilot score by Chase & Rucker)?

Doug responds:

Ummmm.... the quick answer is no. The longer answer is, even though it's possible, I've got countless other titles I want to work with first.

A few posts further down he elaborates:

By the way, always hang on to hope. While it's not high on my list, that's mainly because so many other scores are. I have lots of wants still. People sometimes say there's not much left to release but I sure can come up with a list a mile long. Old scores from the 1930's and 1940's, 1950's, stuff I grew up hoping for in the 1960's and 1970's, endless TV scores, episode scores, expanded stuff by the dozens, countless treasures in the Disney vaults, you name it.

So your Ron Jones hopes are certainly worth holding on to as well. smile

This exchange prompted me to join the Intrada forums, after wallowing in a crummy state of misery wherein I was convinced there was no hope whatsoever of getting my favorite score on CD. The music of DuckTales honestly helps make life a little easier for me, and to have it in unadulterated form would be nothing short of divine.

Signed!
(Although these petitions never have a result)

But I LOVE the score to Ducktales.
I would probably put it in the top 5 scores of all time for animation series.
