Bruce Broughton's father passed away recently and he posted the following on his FaceBook page:

"Going through my father's things, I found a letter written from Miklos Rozsa to my grandfather. My grandfather was a composer, but not in the movies. Nevertheless, he treasured the note. This photo shows my grandfather standing with a group of composers in 1946 that include Rozsa, Franz Waxman, Dmitri Tiomkin, Meredith WIllson, Victor Young, John Green and William Grant Still."

He doesn't say which one is his grandfather. What a great picture with so much talent in one room!

Cool! I recognize only Waxman, Tiomkin and Rozsa (is Young the guy standing to the right of Rozsa seen from here).

I don't know for sure who any of the others are, but I think that's Meredith Willson sitting next to Tiomkin on the right. Looks like his picture from The Music Man album.

Yes. And Frank Skinner is fourth from the right.

The gentleman third from the left in uniform looks like Rozsa in his later years, while the younger Rozsa stands nearby.

Interesting to try to sort out who is who here....

I believe Rozsa stands in front of the black portrait.

William Grant Still would be the only African-American, so that is him on the right arm of the couch.

On the left arm seems to be Franz Waxman.

Behind Still looks like Alfred Newman a little, but I can't be sure.

Thanks for bringing this to us, Mark.

That's Tiomkin sitting on the couch to the right of Waxman and then Willson to the right of him.

Fifth from the right standing, is that Alex North?

I was thinking the same thing myself, but I believe North was still living and working in New York in '46 and I'm guessing this picture was taken in LA. Doesn't mean he couldn't have been where the picture was taken though.

2nd from the left (you can only see his head) looks like Leith Stevens to me.

(Incidentally, on the subject of composer-related group photos on Facebook, Patrick Williams recently provided several from a BMI dinner circa 1973).

I thought that was the "composer with two heads"!

He's short enough to be Newman.

Broughton says that one of them is John Green. Any guesses?

I think that Victor Young (?) is definetely Victor Young.
Might the 2nd from the left standing be a young Hugo Friedhofer?

Looks like the second from the left standing is Leith Stevens. Here's a photo of him:
