Please, Mr. Kendall or whoever has listened to this wonder, I need to know the following: has the Elevator Song has that precious third floor verse restored? The words are:
THIRD FLOOR DUNGEON

Household appliances.

Spike beds, electric chairs,

gas chambers, roasting pots,

and scalping devices.*

It's supposed to come in before he sings "Basement Dungeon-everybody out."

I know that verse was there, and missed it horrendously when Turner Classics shows Dr T now and then. It was most likely cut from modern prints because of the gas chamber reference.
This movie soundtrack is soooo delicious. My check will be in the mail as soon as I know I won't be disappointed.

It's there - twice! Disc 2, track 1, then disc 2, track 19 is an alternate version.

Oops. We listed the Columbia scoring stage in the booklet, not Republic. Was the Republic stage known under any other name? (We'll have to amend the online ad copy or something for the correction!)

I was listening again to this miraculous release over the weekend. I have a quick question: are the lyrics for the songs available for reading or download anywhere -- or perhaps in Seuss books? I enjoy having lyrics available to read while listening -- or just to peruse to enjoy their structure and artistry on their own. Does anyone know of a source?

A fan posted the lyrics to six of the songs here: http://www.q7.com/~vvv/fingers/5000lyrics.html

I hope he's caught wind of FSM's spectacular release.

Josh, thanks so much for that site. The lyrics for the songs are such great great fun -- all impeccably crafted -- perfect rhymes and eminently singable. This has got to be one of my all-time favorite lyrics:

"Dressing Song"

Come on and dress me, dress me, dress me, in my finest array!
Cause just in case you haven't heard
Today is doe-me-doe day!

Dress me in my silver garters, dress me in my diamond studs
Cause I'm going doe-me-doe-ing in my doe-me-doe duds!
I want my undulating undies with the maribou frills!
I want my beautiful bolero with the porcupine quills!
I want my purple nylon girdle with the orange blossom buds
Cause I'm going doe-me-doe-ing in my doe-me-doe duds!

Come on and dress me! dress me! dress me!
In my peek-a-boo blouse
With the lovely inner lining made of Chesapeake mouse!
I want my polka-dotted dickie with the crinolin fringe
For I'm going doe-me-doe-ing on a doe-me-doe binge!

I want my lavender spats and in addition to them
I want my honey-colored gosset with the herring bone hem
I want my softest little jacket made of watermelon suede
And my long persimmon placket with the platinum braid
I want my leg of mutton sleeves and in addition to those
I want my cutie chamois booties with the leopard skin bows
I want my pink brocaded bodice with the floofy fuzzy ruffs
And my gorgeous bright blue bloomers
With the monkey feather cuffs
I want my organdy snood and in addition to that
I want my chiffon Mother Hubbard lined with Hudson Bay rat
Dress me up from top to bottom, dress me up from tip to toe
Dress me up in silk and spinach for today is doe-me-doe day!
DOE-ME-DOE DAY!

So come and dress me in the blossoms of a million pink trees!
Come on and dress me up in liverwurst! and camembert cheese!
Come on and dress me up in pretzels, dress me up in bock beer suds! Cause I'm gooooo-ing
--doe-me-dooooooooo-ing--
in my doe-me-doe duds!

Album executive producer (and Dr. T. super fan) Michael Feinstein was recently interviewed on New York radio about this film and album. George Chakiris calls in to talk about it as well (it was his first film!). You can hear the interview here: http://www.wnyc.org/shows/soundcheck/2012/mar/22/5000-fingers-dr-t/

Hello Neil,

Are you going to be at the FFM3 event? I got a chance to chat with you briefly in LA last August and thought you were a really swell fellow. Our conversation was cut short, but I'd certainly like to pick up the discussion again were we left off. If memory serves, we were talking about a certain Rosenman score that should be re-issued and expanded....

Cheers!

Feinstein relates a sad story in the above linked interview about going to Columbia Pictures in the mid-1980s to get some of the song score for "5,000 Fingers." As he tells it:

"They had thrown out a whole bunch of movie scores recently because they were getting rid of their old files. The dumpsters were being filled with old scores. And I said 'Why are you throwing these away?' And she said 'Well. they're no good.' I said 'Well how do you determine that they're no good?' And she had a copy of Leonard Maltin's book Movies On Television, and if he gave the movie two stars or less, she threw away the score. Happily, for some reason, she had saved "The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T."

NOTE: Maltin gives "5,000 Fingers" three stars.

It all depends on how much work I have to do. I'm swamped right now and haven't really been able to get away. We'll see!

I got this CD for free because I bought over $50 worth of FSM titles recently, and I'm so glad I did. The music is great, and the "Dressing Song" is hilariously camp!

The Dressing Song was the inspiration for a Simpson's song sung by that loveable character C. Montgomery Burns.

Dr. Terwilliker: You know that part in Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, where the drummer is supposed to go 'A-boom-boom-boom-boom?' Well, this stupid lout always went 'A-boom-boom-boom-boom... A-boom!' One extra boom, you know. He'll be here forever.

Mr. Zabladowski: You mean he has to keep beating that drum forever?

Dr. Terwilliker: Oh, that isn't the man I'm punishing! My man is inside the drum!
