Warner Bros Records has sent the following letter out to those who have pre-ordered the Limited, Numbered Collector's Edition of THE DANNY ELFMAN & TIM BURTON 25TH ANNIVERSARY MUSIC BOX:
Thank you for your order of "THE DANNY ELFMAN & TIM BURTON 25TH ANNIVERSARY MUSIC BOX"
Due to the elaborate workmanship required in creating this unique treasure box our manufacturer will not be able to deliver until February. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this delay.
In appreciation of your order, Warner Bros Records is pleased to let you know that we will be sending you a very special HOLIDAY GIFT:
THE DANNY ELFMAN & TIM BURTON 25TH ANNIVERSARY MUSIC BOX COLLECTOR'S EDITION BONUS DISC
Created EXCLUSIVELY for the now sold-out Numbered, Limited Collector's Edition of 1000, this BONUS DISC will feature special musical content. Only those who already purchased the COLLECTOR'S EDITION will receive this rare 17th Disc as an addition to the set's 16 CD collection.
To make your holidays even brighter, this bonus gift disc will be AUTOGRAPHED BY DANNY ELFMAN!
I wonder if anybody would be able to elaborate as to what will be included on this 17th CD? It won't make or break my order, but I'm curious to know. Hopefully it's not those pop songs included on the Nightmare Before Xmas 2 CD edition?
Is there anything in the collector's edition that won't be included in the regular release? Yes: the bonus disc autographed by Elfman and a certificate of authenticity.
This is like watching a soap opera. You just know they're improvising this 17th disc (of which the content is not even mentioned) because they couldn't ship out on time and they want to please the first 1000 buyers who thought they were buying an exclusive limited item, which is now as it seems just as available in a second run.
It seems limited edition truly has lost its meaning in the eyes on the labels, so please just stop it already.

The fact you get a CoA and a special disc is what makes it limited. It's already limited to those who will cough up 500 bucks, so I don't know what more you could want.
They obviously had long enough knowledge of a "delay" to produce a "bonus" CD in the meantime, plus sleeve art, to persuade folks not to cancel their orders over the next three months. I smell a rat. I doubt they ever contemplated starting the manufacture of the expensive packaging except as a prototype until they had sold out. They have half-a-million dollars secured already and can now pay the manufacturer with your money, not their own.
And now I see this set is not sold out at all – all they've really sold out of is the 1000 limited edition certificates! There will be thousands more sets made available from February (with manufacturing costs effectively paid in advance by the buyers of the "certificate release"). What a lot of charlatans.
Give it a year and when they've exhausted the supply of anyone they can find willing to pay $500, they'll be releasing all the music to as many people as they can find who will be willing to buy it for just a few dollars via iTunes or normally-priced CDs. That's when I might buy two or three.

How about an affordable second run without that zoetrope?
By the way it's a zoetrope box designed by Elfman himself, how much more proof of authenticity does one need? It's a piece of paper. Who is going to duplicate a zoetrope? They are winging it.
