Basically, according to Jan, his backup tapes are unusable, and though he has the MIDI patch data stored on his computers, several of the original synths he used are inoperative. He has also said (through his manager) that the Complete Collection was a financial disappointment, and so there will not be a Volume Two. Combined with the Universal Archive fire apparently destroying the masters, unless someone can pony up the replacement equipment, offer a generous sum to Jan for his time and effort, and come up with an even more generous sum to Universal to get the rights for any new releases, well...the party's over, pal.

The Complete Collection a financial disappointment? I thought it sold out quickly? It goes for big amounts on discogs.

Anyone here who would buy a John Petersen "Miami Vice season 4" CD-set? No. That's ok. YOU hadn't been allowed to buy one.

Perhaps Hammer didn't get the OK from Universal to use original tracks, thus had to re-record them (Disc 1 were owned by MCA). Also, Jan Hammer doesn't like releasing snippets or short tracks, he likes to arrange them in approx. 3min tracks.

A few questions: 1. Where in all the reports I can read that Hammer's "Miami Vice" tapes had been destroyed during the Universal-fire? I cannot find it. I know he's a "victim", but maybe only the tapes from his Rock & Pop albums had been destroyed (which is also a disaster btw.). 2. Sure that the "Miami Vice Complete Collection" 2-CD-Set was a financial disappointment? It was too quickly sold out to be one. 3. Because of possibly destroyed tapes and no further "Miami Vice" CDs or reissues I intend to buy the mp3-Version on Hammer's website although I am not a real mp3 fan. Does anybody know whether the quality is (almost) as good as the CDs?

Thanks for reply goozer. Sad news. But I'm forced to buy the mp3 files from Hammer's website, because there really won't be a rerelease (told me his management today). And if the tapes are really gone, who knows what is also destroyed!? Maybe the music from every Universal TV-show including "It takes A Thief", "Columbo", "The Rockford Files", "Magnum, p.i.", "Knight Rider", "The A-Team" and "Airwolf". All favorites from me with great music. Let's hope that someone will check one day, what's left, maybe La La Land or Intrada. Btw.: F*** Universal!
