couldn't believe Christopher Lee and Robert Vaughn were in it.

Both apparently claimed they were conned into it...

Neither were below doing schlock. Both members of the Micheal Caine acting club.

And said after they'd cashed the cheque.

True... both also worked for Gerry Anderson in his live-action era. Although only one of them was on both Coronation Street and Walker, Texas Ranger.

Have you forgotten Ena Sharples ( Violet Carson). She knocked the crap out of Chuck!

True, but they had their limits. Even a schlocky Hammer or Corman production is miles above this.

I remember my choir and orchestra teacher talking about this film with wry enjoyment when it first came out. We were both Sci Fi fans, though I was full-on Stars Trek & Wars and wouldn't have paid a dime to see this when it hit theaters. (I was such a snob, I even turned my nose up at the Logan's Run soundtrack after I saw the movie, which I thought was tired and tiring - the movie, not the music. What a fool I was.) But back in 77-79 you didn't have much choice for new science fiction, so he took what he could get.

Many years later, when I saw it on cable, the one moment I recall was somebody saying "They come from behind" in one of the interminable space chases - which I muddled into "Hi-Ho - They Come from Behind!" Which has made my wife and I giggle for more times than I care to admit.

But I was immediately taken and surprised by the mix of Jazz and sci-fi movie scoring that Gil brought to this silly dreck. I am always impressed at how hard the composers and musicians work to try to bring some life to these z-grade things.

And now I can listen all I want. And no, it doesn't sound great, could use a lot of TLC, but I don't care - I love how he mixes in electronics! It's like a companion to Zeitlin's Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Though of course in that case, for a much better movie.

Except that no one says "Hi-Ho, they come from behind!"

Great story, Sean! I remember that after Christopher Lee had uprooted to Hollywood, escaping his "horror" image and spreading his wings by appearing in classics such as STARSHIP INVASIONS and END OF THE WORLD, "Cinefantastique" wrote, "Another step downwards for Christopher Lee... who'd better start watching his step".

And yet such an abysmal film as STARSHIP INVASIONS "inspired" (?) Gil Mellé to write another of his mind-bogglingly great scores. I always thought that GOLD OF THE AMAZON WOMEN was the film that displayed the biggest gulf between dire cinematic results and Gil's compositional genius, but maybe STARSHIP INVASIONS takes the biscuit. Having said that, GOLD OF THE AMAZON WOMEN only has tribes of Amazon women in fur bikinis, whereas STARSHIP INVASIONS has Christopher Lee in leotards and an incredibly silly hat.

Fishman did a nice suite of it...

No contest, much as I like Christopher Lee, I take the former over the latter.

If it helps, the movie somehow manages to objectify all the women in it (except Helen Shaver's character).

And further to Charles Thaxton's post from 2010 I believe the trippy-looking robot strangeling Christopher Lee
is based on the eyewitness descriptions of Calvin Parker and Charles Hickson from the Pascagoula encounter of 1973.
Making Starship Invasions even more disconcerting.

I believe the actress everyone is looking at was Angie Dickenson's body double in DRESSED TO KILL.
