For those that have seen this 1980 film, it has some nice pieces of music by Webster Lewis, anyone acquainted with this score? There are some spooky moments and then some really dramatic/beautiful moments as well.

Do you guys think a limited CD run of 1000 would sell?

Just curious that's all, no nothing is in the works right now, but I am interested in seeing what I can do to get it released.

Peter, I saw the movie for the first time a couple of month ago and frankly the music didn't register as anything special for me so I personally wouldn't be interested in a recording, but perhaps there are others who responded to it like you did or who are fans of the composer. I had never heard of him before myself, but sometimes these relatively lesser known composers have a small, but very loyal following and maybe some will come forward and post here.

Not sure what you can do to try to get someone to look into releasing it unless one of the label producers is a fan of the score since that is how many lesser known scores seem to get released. I'd first check to see if any of those guys (Lukas, Matt, MV, Bruce, Doug, Roger, etc.) are fans. We know they are all accessible. After that I'm not sure what the next step would be, but best of luck on your attempt because I know you love this score!

Never heard of it. wink But seriously, honestly, and sadly, I don't think it would sell too many copies. The film is so obscure even amongst movie nerds, and I don't know that the score would really register with people. One thing you could try is to get sample scenes from the film up on YouTube and then inquire amongst score fans and producers to see if they like what they hear.

Depending on how much it would cost, I'm tempted to just look into releasing it myself and putting fourth the $10,000 or so more dollars and just sell if here and there. I'm sure someone would help me release it if I was to put fourth the money, right?

I know it's not a well known movie, but the amount of rare stuff, I've never heard that is being released constantly, it may sell a few copies, who knows.

Mark Ford, your a turd that you wouldn't buy this CD...LOL LOL Maybe I'll have to start my own record company, he he heeee

Thanks Josh!!!

Petie, first you need to find out if the masters even exist. They may not.

Peter, you are the only person I know over the past 30 years who likes this score as much as I do.

I know the film is on DVD and is shown on The Independent Film Channel every once in a while.

A CD release would be great.

Perhaps there can be a double score CD with The Hearse along with a less obscure score.

I'd buy one! But then, I'm a 70's & 80's horror movie afficionado...
or nerd if you prefer. I love THE HEARSE. Great performance from
Trish Van Devere, a seemingly forgotten actress since she never
really starred in any blockbuster films. I always liked her and most
of the films she was in. The only thing I didn't like about this film
was the rather abrupt ending leaving me to wonder what happens
to Trish's character.

Another creepy story involving a hearse if from the film Burnt Offerings, the lead main characters childhood had a scary flash back with a hearse and the creepy driver as well. I myself have always found hearses as creepy, especially the older ones 50/60's etc.

MSMITH, good idea about coupling it with someone not so obscure! I honestly don't think there is 20 minutes of different music as several pieces are played again in later scenes.

OK Peter, I guess I'm a turd, but I'm one you can polish despite the old saying to the contrary (as proven by the MYTBUSTERS)!

After The Shining, Burnt Offerings is IMO the best haunted house movie of them all. There is a small selection of that score on an existing compilation album, but man if you could get the whole score and pair it with The Hearse, then you'd REALLY have something there!

I did mention that score to another friend that Burnt Offerings is another good score and has NOT been released, I know the compilation your talking about, I own it. As a kid, this movie scared the tar out of me and I agree, it's a great haunted house story, that ending, my goodness.

That would be cool to pair it with that, course, I know nothing how that is working with two different companies and if they would agree to it etc. etc. I can only imagine it's a lot of work, but I'd be down for helping out with it.

BURNT OFFERINGS is another favorite of mine! Karen Black rules!
Another fun horror film from this era is THE SENTINEL (1977)
with a nice score by Gil Melle.

Burnt Offerings has the distinction of terrifying me as a child, and it's where I got my Allardyce moniker from. smile

That's way scarier then the HEARSE. LOL.

I swear if any label ever puts this out, I HAVE to be involved on some level of it smile I think Webster Lewis did the music and he's been gone for years and didn't do a lot of scores unfortunately. I think it's a great little creepy 80's film.
