Like Mission to Mars, this score is one the few that doesn't do anything for me. Having just played it after a number of years, it still left me cold.
It doesn’t make you wrong. And the fact that I played Mission to Mars last week for the first time in years and loved it doesn’t make me wrong either. But we should all be grateful that you’ve resurrected this thread.
I might give Mission to Mars another spin and see if my view has changed!
It probably won’t, Dave, I think that rarely happens. Have you seen the film? That won’t help! But not agreeing can be as much fun as agreeing...

No - it’s much better than the film! As I recall it, the music gives it a heightened sense of credibility in the final third which otherwise could sink into well-deserved derision. That it has any worth whatsoever by the end titles is entirely due to Morricone.
I bought it after reading this thread at the time. It really is great stuff, with a fantastic Love Theme as Henry mentioned. Doesn't outstay it's welcome either. One of the first scores I went to after the sad news. Highly recommended.
Indeed anytime Morricone scored a film about a musician like CANONE INVERSO, THE LEGEND OF 1900 or ATTENTI AL BUFFONE you got a creative explosion from him.
It's a very nice score and the track "Finale di un 'concerto romantico interrotto' per violino, pianoforte (in canone) e orchestra" is stunning. One of my best concert events was the concert in the Verona Arena in 2012 where the Maestro conducted this piece. Hearing it live there under a starry Italian sky is an unforgettable experience.

I was there too. A wonderful concert! I think it was a great setlist. La Creazione at the beginning was a tremendous way to start the concert. I remember that I had a young couple in front of me and during Canone Inverso they laid their heads and shoulders against each other. There was certainly love in the air that night in Verona.
