I found this movie in a bargain bin for $5 back in July... I finally popped it in and watched it yesterday. Aside from a couple of minor holes and errors... fantastic, FANTASTIC movie. It's easily the best film that Jean Claude Van Damme has done, and Powers Boothe really excels here as well. LOTS of gratuitous violence and tension for the action fan in me... and a decent story and decent character development as well! Not something you get in many films *these* days... My only complaint is that the only version available is the single DVD hacked into fullscreen dimensions. Where's the widescreen DVD / Blu-Ray already?! Come on, Universal... John Debney's score is ballsy and VERY prominent as well. I am glad that Varese issued a 30-minute album back in the day, which I thankfully own... I shall give this a spin quite soon. However, I would *love* to have a complete, expanded, remastered edition of the full score as well... Now to put another Peter Hyams film on the queue list... Stay Tuned! (As an aside, and a rather crude remark... I could have titled this thread "John Debney's Sudden Death", but then it would have a different meaning altogether, wouldn't it?) How about you guys?

Fairly sure the Brigish DVD is in full widescreen. And the Varese CD is great.

The Sudden Death score kicks ass... Yeah, it's pretty clear the film was temp tracked with The Fugitive. However, Debney's score for Sudden Death rocks. He takes JNH's action music from The Fugitive to the next level and makes it even more hard hitting. There's a ton of action music in the film that's missing on the cd. I really wish Varese would revisit this score with a Deluxe Edition, but sadly I doubt that will ever happen. As for the film, sure Sudden Death is a rip off of Die Hard, however it's the best of all the knock offs. Also, in my opinion, Van Damme has more decent films than Steven Seagal: Kickboxer, Bloodsport, Lionheart, Hard Target, Universal Soldier, Sudden Death, Time Cop, JCVD, and Universal Soldier: Regeneration. The only solid Steven Seagal film I can think of: Under Siege, which I would count as the second best knock off of Die Hard.

A nice companion score to SUDDEN DEATH is Shirley Walker's TURBULENCE, which uses a lot of similiar synth drum machine loops with a big orchestra.

If the last couple of years in film scores have showed us one thing, it's than anything is possible. Also, in my opinion, Van Damme has more decent films than Steven Seagal: Kickboxer, Bloodsport, Lionheart, Hard Target, Universal Soldier, Sudden Death, Time Cop, JCVD, and Universal Soldier: Regeneration. Throughout the 1990s, I enjoyed Seagal's output much more than Van Damme's and like just about all of his movies before he went direct-to-video. But it's funny, Seagal went DTV and his movies got worse, while Van Damme went DTV and his movies actually got better.
