I really enjoyed the music in this movie, even if it was a little too loud at times.

I look forward to hearing the music outside dvd, since there were lots of wordless sequences (the title character thinking, doing strange things, and looking conflicted), so Antheil got a lot of leeway, and wrote very challenging stuff.

And dvd commentator Eddie Muller made a big deal talking about Antheil in the commentary, calling him the only bona fide genius working on the film (Muller said very little about this music, specifically, though).

The music from this film became in integral part of Columbia's music library, appearing in countless movies including THE GIANT CLAW, 20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH, DRIVE A CROOKED ROAD, ZOMBIES OF MORA TAU, and it was used as part of the "Main Title" of THE WEREWOLF. Somebody in Italy is writing a biography about Antheil overseas, as he contacted me a number of times over the past years, but whether it will be published in English I am not certain.

I saw "The Sniper" about 40 years ago on television, but not since. Edward and Edna Anhalt's screen story received an Academy Award nomination in the Writing (Motion Picture Story) category. The film caused a mild stir prior to its release. In a full-page ad for "The Sniper" in The Hollywood Reporter, the Stanley Kramer Co. apologized for sending out bullets to critics and industry personnel as part of a pre-invitational screening "teaser."

I look forward to hearing the music outside dvd,
what do you mean? There's no isolated track on the dvd. Is there an upcoming cd release, or do you mean you're making your own cd from the dvd?

I'll do a "taped off TV" version for myself.
