It's that date again today where we remember one of the all-time greats who departed this mortal plain 12 years ago today.

What will you play?

Cheers

Always THE DEEP.

Was listening to it when the news broke.

I was about 13 when I was starting to get seriously interested in movie soundtracks on disc. Prior to that, I knew I loved my James Bond music, but I hadn't turned into a record searcher.

13 is significant because that's how many years ago I was called by cruel fate to write this.

Every year, one remembers the composer that filled them most with this joy we call soundtracking.

Cheers

Now playing The Lion In Winter, undoubtedly a score that will outlive us all. It is just so human and epic at the same time.

If "We're Jungle Creatures" isn't one of John Barry's ultimate great tracks, closing out the goodbyes from O'Toole's outstretched arms, then it's impossible to think of another.

This is a score that I always play at Christmas time, but I missed it, so it's getting full play today.

And along with the Morricone Dollar films, You Only Live Twice was the first time I sat up and took notice of a film score. And gazillions of dollars later, I'm still picking up John Barry's soundtracks and films on disc. I just picked up the BFI release of The Knack on Blu Ray which has more special features than the North American release.

So, I hope Barry fans on here play some of Barry's lesser known scores, like Follow Me.

Have a fond John Barry remembrance day, everyone.
