Movie isn't available on DVD and the score hasn't been released on CD but some very nice music by Quincy Jones here. Try the opening six minutes from the film:
When they released The Pawnbroker/The Deadly Affair, I was really hoping that SlenderThread/Mirage would follow - I really love both scores.
Unfortunately, Quincy doesn't seem to sell well right now so I'm not holding my breath for 'Mirage' or 'The Slender Thread' being released on CD any time soon.

Most of the pictures Q scored in his rather brief 60s/early 70s heyday aren't very high profile today. And if the score for one his most high profile movies -- The Getaway -- can't be found and a terrific release like The Split can't sell 1500 measly copies, whither the likes of Banning, Brother John, The Last of the Mobile Hot Shots, and Honky?
True. Quincy's soundtracks don't seem to sell. It's something I just don't understand. I've tried repeatedly to engage Universal Music on both "The Slender Thread" and "Mirage" to no avail. I've even tried to get a jazz-based compilation of Q's work out, utilizing a lot of material from these two soundtracks, which - perhaps predictably - was turned down even quicker. If the great "The Split" isn't performing for FSM, I doubt they'll be likely to take on additional Q when a limited edition title of even one of Jerry Goldsmith's lesser accomplishments sells out in no time flat. Again, I just don't understand. Thanks for posting "The Slender Thread" and helping to engage more than a few people's attention in this great music.

Glad to see you're posting here Doug! I've e-mailed you at your Website over the years and have always appreciated the information you've shared.
Thanks, Doug for your efforts in trying to get Universal to release 'The Slender Thread' and 'Mirage'. Let's hope that someday soon they'll have a change of mind.

I share your hope for the (hopefully close) future.
Another Q score from the 60s is 'For Love of Ivy'. I haven't seen the film but remember hearing the gorgeous title song sung by Shirley Horn and also hearing a lovely instrumental version in a clip from the film.
This version of the song by is not quite as good as the original but illustrates the beauty of the song
