Michael Landon/ from IMDB:

"The very worst thing you can do to a man is to make him think he is a coward. If a guy needs his job in order to feed and clothe his kids, he'll put up with a lot of abuse before he fights back. I have seen many men mentally shattered by some big-mouth who screamed and yelled in order to get his way. Most of those men did not deserve the abuse but they had to have their jobs, so they kept their mouths shut - and that made them feel like cowards."

"When a man knows he's being wronged and that he should yell right back at his boss, but is afraid to because he fears being fired, then he had just convinced himself that he's a coward and that is one of the worst things you can do to a person. I don't blame a man for keeping his mouth shut in circumstances like that, but he will blame himself, and that is horrible."

In my earlier years I used to run off at the mouth. I didn't take sh*t from anyone at work most notably my supervisors. As you can imagine that often got me in hot water and/or I faced retaliation. In the end I won nothing but a "moral victory" and burned bridges.

In my later years I've learned to bite my tongue. Not because I'm a coward or feel like one but because your employer just has to much power over the employee nowadays and I don't want to be constantly fighting at work.

But I don't let them take advantage of me either. I refuse to take on more roles at work. They wanted me to become a med tech and a team leader. I've refused both though they threatened to cut my hours if I didn't become a med tech. (they never did) The more work you take on at work the more they abuse you. They often ask me to bail them out by working extra hours. I only work extra hours when it suits my needs not theirs.

So they get what they deserve in return.
