Steve, can not agree more this was a very special evening and it was nice to be part of it, your article is excellant and this evening will never be forgot.

I was 8 when I first saw Zulu. The following year I was with my Dad in Almeria, Spain (he was working on a film called The Lost Command with Anthony Quinn) and he bought me the Spanish single of Shirley Bassey singing Goldfinger. All my life I have been surrounded by the music of John Barry and I had to fly from Malta to make the concert. I am just so glad I did. The Concert held so much resonance for great times. I was a Runner on The Man with The Golden Gun and had to deliver some film to Mr Barry at his apartment on The Thames. All the Drivers knew how much i admired his music and said i should deliver it to get to meet him. Mr Barry opened the door and my nerves got the better of me and I sort of thrust the film can at him which he graciously accepted. Then the door was closed and I cursed my shyness. Later on through colleagues in the English Chamber Orchestra I was able to sit in on rehearsals for the 1999 RAH concert. In 2002 I had dinner with Mr and Mrs Barry.
I often dreaded the day when i would hear he had passed away. I was in an office in Mumbai, preparing for work and saw a Facebook message telling me "I must be gutted". I never dreamed i would learn of John Barry's death via Facebook, In India.
The concert was a flood of all these memories and for tears for friends who couldn't be there through illness but who were as much a part of my John Barry memories as his magnificent music.
I am listening to Indecent Proposal as i write this. I will then listen to Somewhere in Time. Mr Barry's music is Forever in Time.

Today, would have been John's 79th birthday.

Some of us celebrate and remember John Barry on an almost daily basis.

However, to mark the day here's a video of some gorgeous images of Oyster Bay, NY, where he had his main home since the early 80s, set to music from 'Mary, Queen Of Scots'

Continue to Rest In Peace, John.

Always a sad date to remember JB. Incidentally, the radio programme I listen to every morning (Marty Whelan, RTE Lyric FM) played 'Moviola' in remembrance of John today.

Indeed it is. I was very lucky to see JB in his last concert performance in Dublin, shortly before he died. JB's music brought me into the world of film scores so he'll always place in my collection. Thank you for the music JB.

I was at that concert as well Dave. John conducted the first couple of pieces and then Nicholas Dodd took over. Hosted by Aedin Gormley if I remember.

It was indeed. She did an interview with JB recorded at his home in NY a year or two before the concert. Sadly I cannot find it.
