Hi buddy! Yes, it's in the third season collection, and the FX are original AND redone. I was watching it for the umpteenth time (on Netflix instead of the DVD sets--I can't be bothered to dig them out of the basement LOL), and the weird thing is that all the other TOS episodes on Netflix are the redux FX versions, but "The Cage" is not. Well, I may yet pull the trigger on a Blu player. On my projector screen and HD the digital FX are a very mixed bag and very different. The old effects of Enterprise flybys look grainy, but at least they actually look like a physical object going through space. I saw the CGI on vhs taped from TV, back in the day, and the contrast was jarring and looked phoney even then. It's obviously just a matter of taste - some like it, some don't. I wish they had mitigated the extra grain that came with the old effects, since it tends to look worse in high-def. The slingshot around the sun in Tomorrow is Yesterday is amazing, the sequence finally makes sense. Even the "Enterprise in the atmosphere" stuff was really well done. Other episodes and shots didn't fare as well. The Romulan ships in The Enterprise Incident are poorly rendered, the giant Fesarius in The Corbomite Maneuver is cartoony and The Doomsday Machine shots don't always match up to the original intent. The restored music in the opening credits in the first year, sponsor ads, network tags, actual accurate mono sound mix, "next week" episode previews where they belong, accurate production logos, and so on. The Twilight Zone blu rays are absolutely perfect. Star Trek has never gotten a "night of original broadcast" presentation on home video, where other shows have.
