INTRADA
Announces:

THE CORE
Composed by CHRISTOPHER YOUNG
INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 187

For Chrisopher Young's score to the 2003 Paramount film The Core, Young employed approximately 120 orchestral musicians and over 40 choir members to perform and record this massive work. It is a score of epic proportions, constructed of brazenly sumptuous orchestrations utilizing triplicate woodwinds doubling on piccolos, alto flutes, English horn, contrabass clarinet, and contrabassoon; eight horns, four trumpets, five trombones, a tuba, two harps, two pianos, a massive percussion battery; and strings. As Young recalls, “We recorded the score at Paramount. When I stepped out onto the stage I could see the orchestra was electrified by the music. There were at least a handful of cues where I could sense a few, ‘wows!’ amongst the group. They’re not easy to please, so seeing these musicians react so favorably was a major thrill for me.”

The Intrada Special Collection release, produced with special cooperation from the American Federation of Musicians, marks the premiere commercial release of the score in thundering stereo sound.

The film details a nightmare scenario resulting from the cataclysmic disruption of the earth’s core, and event that disrupts the uniform spinning of the earth’s core which generates the magnetic field encompassing the planet. When the equilibrium of the revolving mass is thrown into disarray, the magnetic field is compromised—thus exposing the earth to the ultra-violent forces of the universe. In order to remedy the situation, two maverick scientists propose drilling into the earth’s core utilizing a superhard crystalline substance on board a subterranean vehicle to reach the earth's core and restart it with nuclear explosions.

I like the cover but have no clue about the music, though the samples sound interesting. Kudos to Intrada for providing so many samples for this album.

This is a fantastic "big" score from Chris Young and thanks to this release by Intrada I can now retire my b@#t, one of the few I ever had!

Fun film that looked back to 50s sci-fi/adventure films and 70s disaster films for inspiration. Adopting that frame of mind when viewing, there is a lot to enjoy about this "throwback" film. Young's score is gloriously along for the ride.

Big orchestral score. Lots of propulsive action. Bold. Brawny. Fun.

Anyone who laments the state of modern-day film music would find this score a delight.

Thanks Sarge! Sounds ideal then and I don't have much Chris Young stuff in my collection.

Excellent, most definitely ordered.

Oh, and if Basil Wrathbone looks in, I told my doctor this way coming out and I was "diverting funds" to it. He examined my head, as you recommended, told me I was just fine and should carry on ordering whatever music it makes me happiest to listen to, regardless of the age in which it was released.

What are the differences, if any, between this release and the previous, 2-CD "limited" release it had earlier?

I'm curious about this as well.

Roger mentioned that it was expanded by another 20 minutes or so. The previous release was also a composer promo not made commercially available.

I have no particular interest in this, but I just wanted to say that I saw the film again quite recently and was struck by how massive Young's score was there. Really propelled the film into a good sci fi romp. I also understand it's been a fan favourite for quite some time, due to the limited availability of the promo, I would assume. So I'm sure this will be a good seller for Intrada.

I'm surprised it's not mentioned in the publicity release. I'd be more eager to get it, if I didn't already have the composer promo...

Even if I already own the promo, I listened to the samples and they sound incredible. Can't wait.

The doctor's name wasn't Murray was it? I'm not sure he'd know a lot about how much continual noise is safe to prescribe.

The movie was hilariously bad. The score is a never-regret buy.

What I want to know is what "Intrada Special Collection release available while interest & supplies remain" means.

I think it means that they're not telling us how many were manufactured, so it's available until it sells out or until sales drop off and they take it out of print, whichever comes first.

So you recommend buying it then? Cool I trust you smile

And yes I wonder about that comment as well, I'm super curious to know how many they've printed up.

Its almost 100 minutes of pure action music. The opening title is about as subtle as being kicked on the teeth and the score just gets bigger from there.

I'm definitely buying it.

For some reason the samples aren't working here. They're playing incredibly slowly, so all I'm hearing is a distorted gurgle.

Is this album truly complete. i.e. does it contain the beautiful opening for the shuttle sequence, the pigeon attack at Trafalgar square, and the landing on the Mariana Trench launch site?

This is an absolute tour de force by Chrisopher Young. I was VERY lucky to get one of these during Intrada's promotion for The Tower. It's an absolute must have for Young fans, DON'T miss it!
