Maybe he wasn't officially associated with them, but because he's a pretty cool guy, they were like, "Hey bud, let's party!" and hired him on officially.

Are BSX located in SoCal? big grin

I had to pass on the complete album for now, but I did download Jack Versus Darkness from iTunes, and it is pretty dammed good. Verrett captured the feel of the TD music but did bring a new feel and flourish to the electronic sound.

An excellent track

Any reviews of the entire album?

Thanks for the nice comment.

I've been surprised at given how much this title has sold to date, there has been almost no comment on it.

As with the new recording of THE THING, this is a very pleasant surprise. Never being a fan of the Tangerine Dream score, I passed on the Varese album several times. But now, this recording with its specific instrumentation, sounds much more satisfying to my ears and finally managed to get me into the Dream score of Legend. Very nice Album. Now please do Blade Runner next big grin

Got this one in the mail today, had to have a listen to the Darkness track. I didn`t care for that one.

The original was eerie (malevolent) and icy. This version is more (to use a cliche term) organic. Warmer. The cold synthetic chorus is almost nonexistant, replaced with strings.

There is a palpable listenability to the lighter/gentler/mystical stuff when orchestrated as Verrett has done, something lacking before, but I maintain that the dark material is best represented in its original cold form.

Not bad.

I really liked BSX recordings for Legend (a different interpretation which expands [and IMO surpass] the original versions), Blade Runner (very faithful to the sound of the movie, just wish it had more music) and The Thing (this one is really amazing on how the Morricone orchestral tracks are faithfully reproduced with synths - to the extent that if a track pops up during randon in my iTunes I have to check to confirm if its the original recording or the rerecording).

I hope BSX can someday do a new rerecording of Brad Fiedel's Fright Night Part II.

Was there ever any more information given as to why this release essentially only covered already-available material and not much new material that's heard in the film and nowhere else? I feel like there's a bounty of breadcrumbs out there but nothing concrete and conclusive. I know it's long after the fact, but listening to this release again just reminds me how disappointing it continually is that TD's score is locked away.

Well, at least Johannes Schmoelling has shown us that the score [does] still exist by releasing Tracks in the Snow from EARLY BEGINNINGS in 2008.

For sure! Little bits have made their way out. "Tracks In The Snow" was a great one to hear. Then there's that other "Legend Leftover", the final battle music, that they played live often. You can also hear bit of the swamp music in their track "Goldhunter", and a flute-less version of the love theme in "Beyond the Cottage and the Lake". and a variety of very Legend-y sounds on their album "Underwater Sunlight", released the same year as the American Cut of Legend (in tracks like "Scuba Scuba" and "Song of the Whale Pt 2").

But some notable missing cues from the film are "Prologue" (every version I've heard sounds ripped right from VHS or DVD), the full score for the Unicorns scene (the album version omits Lili's approach of the stallion), the freezing/apocalypse sequence, and the "forgive me" scene (probably one of their best compositions for the film). So curious what allows something like "Tracks in the Snow" to be released, a track with material from at least 3-4 different scenes in the film, while the above mentioned material remains unreleased.

We only covered that music the would be cleared by the publisher.

I went back recently and played it again and I'm happy to say it holds up rather well IMHO.

Thank you for the reply, Ford! Yes I agree, I think it holds up well, I love some of Brandon's takes on the material, especially "Prologue", "Cottage - Alternate", and the Alternates for "Unicorn Theme" and "Unicorn Saga". Some exceptional moments that really do wonders with the melodies as written by TD.
