This is a such a great film. Made just 14 years after the end of World War II, a classy production made with taste, tenderness, compelling suspense and great production values. A classic and one of the best films scores ever.
No comparison soundwise between the new release and the German thing. I am keeping the latter only because of the extra cues, but enjoyed hearing the cleaner sound of the new one so much that I doubt I will often revisit the unmentionable.
Finally received my copy in the mail. Good to have a legitimately released version of Newman's sublime score on CD which is nicely presented. Frank K DeWald provides a great deal of information about both film and score packed in four pages of well-researched notes. It's a nice touch to include the original LP centre labels as well as the LP back cover (there's a typo on that original LP cover but you might need a magnifying glass to spot it!). Although on the Real Gone label, I see that the CD is actually manufactured by Universal Music.
By the way, those above who were waiting for an expanded version are still waiting half-a-dozen years later, but this fine release has served others very nicely in the meantime. Still recommended highly.
