I have no idea how I got into the show- It isn't the sort of program I usually gravitate to - but I really enjoy this series to the extent that it is only the 6th TV show ever that I have all the DVDs released to date (the others are Macgyver, Hustle, Survivors (original not remake), The Inbetweeners and Colditz which is a bit of an eclectic selection I grant you.
I just think the characters are very well crafted and the stories well written. And Michael Weatherly would make a perfect Macgyver if they ever actually do the oft-rumoured movie reboot).
Gutted that Cote De Pablo is leaving the show because her character (ex-Mossad agent Ziva David) is very good and she is quite a hottie too. I just hope that they replace her with someone very different because essentially Ziva is just a clone of the character she replaced (Kate Todd)with an Israli accent.
Very much, Mike. We've just finished series 9 (we don't have Sky so are one series behind) and whilst the stories/characters are a little less compelling than they used to be, most shows make for a great 40mins of entertainment.
I cringe a little at the US is best attitude of the show but since most of the villains are home-grown I can live with it.
I don't agree with your view that Ziva is a clone of Kate ... albeit she has become more so in the recent series. I wait with interest to see how she is written out of the series.
I find it hard to understand why an actor such as Michael Weatherly has stayed with the series so long ... surely he would want to move on to something else before he's past it Did you know that he starred in the TV biopic of Natalie Wood ... playing Robert Wagner!

I always liked Weatherly when he was in Dark Angel but he is great as Tony D Jnr. I agree with you that he could (should?) have gone onto something bigger by now. Like I said, if they do ever make a MacGyver movie (and New Line have announced it) then I cannot think of anyone more perfect to replace Richard Dean Anderson.
It took them a little time (roughly two seasons) to find the right formula, especially in terms of humor, though there have alwasy been good stories from the start. Season 3 was the best, with many original plots and surprises.
In the latest season (10), I particularly liked "Detour" (Ducky & Jimmy).
It's pity we'll be losing Ziva; I loved Sasha Alexander (as Kate), too. As for Michael Weatherly, I had never seen anything with him before, and he's really good as Dinozzo, but I can't picture him as McGyver at all. Robert Wagner was the perfect choice to play his dad; I thought Marina Sirtis would have been a good choice for Ziva's mother (had the latter worked for Mossad as well).

CBS confirms that casting is underway for a twentysomething female character named Bishop, who is described as "bright, educated, athletic, attractive, fresh-faced, focused and somewhat socially awkward. She has a mysterious mixture of analytic brilliance, fierce determination and idealism. She’s traveled extensively, but only feels comfortable at home.” The character's start date is reportedly listed as mid-October, meaning a likely January or February debut on air. TVLine was first to report the casting breakdown.

Only seen the odd episode (always liked McCallum who I believe is in it). Thanks to Watchever I've been seeing a few of Season One of NCIS:LA which has been surprisingly fun. (Wife is already addicted and was up to 1:30am watch 4 episodes in a row)

And no, I'm not. I despise the soft-focus visuals in particular, and that super-annoying punk lab assistant. Much as I feel comfortable with Mark Harmon being a TV leading man, I just haven't been able to finish watching a single episode.

I loved Kate and Ziva, but I don't think Ziva is, or has been, a Kate clone (unless having brown hair makes her a clone).
That role (generically, "member" of the team) has had two actresses and will soon have a third.

Maybe it's the NTSC to PAL conversion, but the colours and everything look as unnatural as ST:NG back in the day.
Finished the 1st season the other day (thanks Watchever) and enjoyed it a lot. Chomping at the bit to start the second season, but it's not available yet so we've started Person Of Interest (again enjoyable for character interaction more than stories, plus not a fan of the violence).
Not a huge fan of DiNozzo so far, but I like all the rest (Kate reminds me of the lass from Charmed). I didn't like it at first that we dropped into a largely established team, but that worked out well.
To the comment about the guy playing DiNozzo as MacGyver, I hope not. I don't picture him in the role.
I wish they would bring her back. This new person just doesn't do it for me, I don't like her. Unfortunately, she's already in the opening titles so I guess she's going to be around for a while. Oh well.

1. It was very offputting to me to see the writers presume a romance between Tony and Ziva that was never "apparent" in previous seasons. Suddendly, Tony is all torn up about her decision to remain in Israel despite his feelings for her. His lamentations for a couple of shows after that were way over the top (to me) for so undeveloped a love story.
2. Tony is aging. His slightly receding hairline was the first thing I noticed. Now, he's getting wider in the hips. And the writers are suddenly making me very "sensitive" to others...putting him into therapy for the Ziva grieving (!!??!!) and, this week, having him make Tim a casserole to cheer him up.
Who are these writers and what are they doing to Tony Di Nozo?
