The score to PLANET OF THE APES deserves to be presented on its own. It's a significant, landmark score and it needs no addendum or footnote. I feel it's kind of an insult to the original score that the ESCAPE suite is even there -- and I think Goldsmith would agree. If I were the producer of a new CD, I wouldn't even mention the "lesser APES" in the liner notes!
My sentiments exactly. I find Goldsmith's score a revelation and would much prefer it to be presented on its own and with extra outtakes etc if they were avaiable.

...and although most people seem to prefer the French poster used for the cover, PLANET is such an American film in energy and outlook that I feel Intrada had the right idea with their CD's artwork.
If you are saying that the Intrada cover art is preferrable to the Varese, I agree wholeheartedly. With all due respect to the Varese artist and his skills, I find the cover art very cartoony. And when it comes to movies such as this, where much of the potency comes from the reveals and surprises, it's never a good idea to give so much away on the front cover. I mean, why not stick the Statue Of Liberty on it too, already?
Intrada's cover comes off as being more mysterious and, somehow, more "artistic".
