Other than that, a Sailor Moon release would be quite welcome. I would love to make it happen some day. smile

MV

I for one loved the USA scores for Sailor Moon - if you haven't seen it yet, the video below is a Symphonic performance of some of the original score, and a few songs from the USA release. I'm most interested in Bob Summers scores.

Ok looks like something has been found, and is premiering on September 11.

I for one am excited. This is the details of the post from the petition group on Facebook:

Great news everyone! We finally managed to source some old archive music from the Bob Summers score of Sailor Moon! While a lot of it is demo and unused music, there are a few old favourites in the compilation. We'll be launching a download link on September 11, to celebrate the anniversary of Sailor Moon in the US. Hopefully this is just the beginning, and we'll eventually get even more BGM in the near future!

I'd welcome a rebuttal from anyone at any of our favorite film score releasing companies, but I seriously doubt any of them has ever released a score CD because of an online petition. Seems like a complete and total waste of time.

Well seeing this thread was posted nearly a decade ago and nothing became of it*...

(*other than the show getting redubed with the original Arisawa scores which have been on cd in Japan for decades of course)

I just listened to the five minute plus cue that opens that video above … spectacular! I've never heard a lick of the show's scoring before, but that was like a grand film score with shades of Goldsmith, Horner, and Bernstein all thrown in. And it sounds like a big orchestra.

I hope this bodes well for the rest of the cues...

The music you hear in these orchestral suites do not represent the music as it was in the show from the early to mid 90s. The original music was the standard cheesy 80s/90s action adventure music you heard in most TV shows with a really small orchestras and electronics combined with a lot of different genres like Jazz and Rock.

A lot like something like this.

But of coarse this show was hyped all the way to the moon, and had a ton of Merchandise including big orchestral renditions of the music played in concerts in Japan.

On a more serious note: Would "Angel" (the Buffy Spin-Off) a realistic possibility for La-La-Land?
I found the the music really good and despite it having an actual CD-release, there's quite some missing music - especially the "real" Angel Main-Title!

Would be a dream come true! I want this even more than a second Buffy volume!

Yeah I like that orchestral album that impressed Justin, but it’s surprising how much of it seems original and not based off any music in the show (though some is). To be honest I rather dig the piece you posted of score proper from the series, but this is by far my favorite material from the show itself:

While it says “theme” it’s really a sequence of a few cues/themes related to the Outer Scouts. Kind of a slightly more classically-oriented hybrid, having something in common with the cue you posted but also being led by solo violin playing the melody (because one of the outer scouts is a violinist). I really dig it and find three of the violin melodies to be very catchy and memorable.

Half the music on that album is original to that album. No clue why it is, and the composer didn't seem to do anything for the series....the rest of it is arrangements of songs from the first two seasons. There's a full breakdown here https://vgmdb.net/album/27997

That's what it was like in Japan. We were "treated" to some truly awful Casio keyboard style music here in the states for DIC massacre dubs of BSSM and R.

As I already mentioned the late Takanori Arisawa's stuff has been complete on cd for the better part of 25 years: https://vgmdb.net/album/26875

Just listened to the official BGM video (as well as a handful of fan-posted videos of same).

I may not remember specific episodes of Sailor Moon, but the vibe of watching this show when I should've been getting ready for high school in the mornings came crashing back. I haven't watched the show in roughly 25 years, but I was able to recall some of the pieces of music and the familiarity was very fun. There are cartoon shows I'd much rather see soundtrack releases of, but I can't be too upset with being given back the feeling of my misspent youth.

"Glad we could do it. I can't tell you how many times over the years I've been contacted about this music. Bob and I both thought that we didn't have any copies of the original tracks. Through a twist of fate...moving and cleaning out boxes and files...these appeared."
