I'm posting this wherever I can. Can anybody supply me with some Mark Hamill material? I already have the following:
* A&E Biography: Mark Hamill (2002) * Mark Hamill on Later with David Alan Grier (1997) * Mark Hamill interview on "Access Hollywood" (1997)
Anything else, such as interviews (new or old), behind the scenes footage, STAR WARS screen test (I have a small portion, but it's on the computer and I'd like it on tape), etc., would be great, including his appearance on JUST SHOOT ME. I want to make a 1 or 2-tape Mark Hamill collection that has a variety of stuff. STAR WARS-related material is always nice, but anything with or talking about Hamill's diverse career would be great.
Damn! If you'd only posted this a couple of days ago. Coz I just gave my younger brother a video called the STAR WARS STORY for his 14th birthday - an unofficial and unauthorized documentary that does not include any footage from the films or anything like that, but plenty of interview bits with Hamill and - if I remember correctly - bits of that audition material as well.
It was probably in PAL anyway (right?), so it wouldn't have played on my VCR. But I think I saw that at Amazon a few days ago, but money is kind of tight right now. Is it worth getting, or is it basically just a rehash of what's already mostly known?
Yes, I did see a portion of one of his two appearances; I think it was the first one. At first I hung my head in shame and asked, "How can Mark Hamill be reduced to SON OF THE BEACH?" Then I read an interview soon after where Hamill stated that he enjoys working in the realm of B-movie material.
Still, it's a shame that the likes of Adam Sandler and Will Smith get the big movies, while versatile talent like Hamill and Bruce Campbell go virtually untapped.
Just rewatched VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED yesterday. It has an impressive line-up of actors, that one, including an eerily intense Hammil.
I wouldn't really recommend THE STAR WARS STORY to anyone, coz it's basically just a string of interview bits (since it was unauthorized, it sorely lacks any film material or behind-the-scenes...mostly just desert landscapes, stars, shots of fans waiting in line to see the film etc.). A poor documentary seemingly made of desperate fans without copyright. But it's got those Hammil interview bits and...if I'm not totally mistaken (I only watched it once)...a few glimpses of the audition.
I loved VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED (then again, I'm biased because I'm a Carpenter nut ). We watched it and the original in one of my film classes for comparison reasons, and everyone disliked the Carpenter one just because of the casting. "How can you take a movie with Superman and Luke Skywalker seriously?" one asked. Also one of my favorite Carpenter scores, a rare one that actually uses an orchestra.
