When I was ordering the Doctor Who Series 7 cd from Silva, I noticed they had listed as a preorder a cd for the Doctor Who 2011 and 2012 Christmas specials coming out October 21st.

Excellent new but still doesn't include the new version of the theme. I'm really surprised by this, but hey, sure it'll be a great album and a must have.

The big cue at the end of the 2011 special was pretty epic as well. I really want that song.

Well spotted...good news!

I suspect there will also be a release for "Day of the Doctor" - hopefully that will include the newer version of the theme (which I like an awful lot more that it's previous incarnation).

Doctor Who: The Snowmen / The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe
Murray Gold
SILCD1435
To be released 21st October 2013

At one time Christmas Day on the BBC meant The Morecambe & Wise Show, a time for families to gather around the TV together. But in the modern era that mantle has now been taken by the Doctor Who Christmas Special. This release brings together the music of the last two which were broadcast on Christmas Day 2011 and 2012 and were watched by a joint audience of close to 20m. This ninth release in the series brings the full canon of Murray Gold’s prolific output up to date, eight years of elaborate and dazzling scores for one of the BBC’s most popular shows worldwide. The booklet for this release is reversible to allow the display of a separate cover for The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe.

P.S.: Sorry Jasom for the other thread, I tried the search engine and browsed back to the thread page starting 13 September, but didn't find this thread then. You might want to correct the link in your original post, I guess it has changed since you first posted it. smile

Excellent new but still doesn't include the new version of the theme. I'm really surprised by this, but hey, sure it'll be a great album and a must have.

Silvascreen have apparently indicated that there are rights issues going on at the moment which is preventing them from using the theme.

This I'd like to know more about. This is a "How can this happen?" kind of thing to me. And what changed from four (yes?) years ago?

All Silvascreen have said is that it's "due to issues beyond Silvascreen's control" (hence apparently rights issues - anything else it could be?), and that they "don't know whether it can or will be featured on upcoming releases."

Now whether that is the theme in general, or just the current version(s) of it is unclear.

Dear me that just beggars belief. I want the series 7 part A version and part B. I'd love them to release an album of every single version of the theme and end titles.

How odd! I can't think what might have happened between this and the last version, presumably it's still composed by Ron Grainer and arranged by Murray Gold, so... Eh?! Fingers crossed they sort it, would be very peculiar if they can't.

Random thought. Didn't this version use the original Radiophonic Workshop recording as the basis so perhaps that's the problem? Then again, I thought earlier Gold versions used the original version as the basis but as a random guess...

Well I certainly hope any problems with the Grainer theme are resolved before we get the Day of the Doctor 50th Anniversary Special. Because in the above trailer we have a simply fantastic version of it. I love the percussion led baseline, and will be disappointed if it's not on the cd, whether it's for the Special or just the trailer.

Just been listening to it on Spotify. Def some lovely music though some moments I hoped for are missing. Clara's theme really makes my heart melt.

It really is a bit of a travesty that in the 50th Anniversary year that some of the best arrangements of the them can't be released for some unknown reason. Disappointing and ludicrous :/
