Folks,
The Washington Redskin football team has been under fire (along with other sports franchises) for representing Native Americans in a "disrespectful" way ..The Washington Redskins football team has QUIETLY, it seems, changed the logo, from the Indian head logo on the helmet, to a sort of version of the college team "Seminoles" type design..An arrow . Political correctness rules out??? I thought the indian head helmet was powerful and respectfull, but, as an organization, what symbol is more meaningful, and respectfull??? We can argue about the name "Redskins" all we wish. A powerful, "warrior" profile,(my city even uses a similar "Indian" profile as a city logo, on police cars, and city stationary!) or an arrowhead?? An ARROWHEAD!! Why bother changing the teams logo then, HUMMM??? Jack Kent Cooke is in his grave, but he must be spinning faster than the Tasmanian Devil on this one!!But who cares about him, the crusty old bastard, I hated the bastard anyhow! I DESPISE uniform changes in sports... But, in this case, what happened here??? This was done seemingly under cover of darkness, like the Colts moving out of Baltimore...I say, leave the logos alone! I want that "Indian Head" helmet logo back!! I think we should realize that that old profile logo in reality showed more respect to Native Americans than caving in SILENTLY and changing to an arrowhead....For shame Washington Redskins....That logo change is the true disrespect...The CAVING, not the logo itself...They are not true "Redskins", they should become the "Washington Yellabellies"...

...and just what makes them think an ARROWHEAD is more "correct"??

If they really wanted to pay respects in today's world, they should have put a casino on the side of the helmut.

oh stop it; these are throwback uniforms from the days of Billy Kilmer.

if they were caving to PC, they would have changed their nickname, too.

Yeah, as "Uncle Jun" say's in the Sopranos, "The Big Casino"....A "big casino" on the helmet...I say, go all the way...Put Jimmy Hoffa on the helmet...Under the casino...

This issue is so friggin' ridiculous. One of the high schools near where we used to leave had to change the name of their football team, too, as well as completely remove this huge and beautifully-painted Indian head profile from the side of their main building.

My brother's high school has a very nice wood Indian figure out in front, and we've been wondering how long it'll be under the P.C. gods force them to get rid of it.

I recommend a sunblock, SPF 45 or higher. No more red skins.

I'm no Spurrier fan, but when he gets the Redskins/Native Americans/original Americans back in the Superbowl, no one will care about the logo. Also, remember Stanford perhaps was the first to go the pc route when they changed their name from "Indians" to "Cardinal" as in cardinal red, not Cardinal the bird so as not to offend our avian neighbors.

Frankly, the whole Roman Catholic Church was up in arms over Stanford's actions.

The St. Johns "Redmen", became, "Redstorm"..What the hell is a "Red Storm" I ask you??? I'd rather they became the "Red Skeltons", or "Red Buttons" for what the change was worth...When will people become "offended" at the name "Yankees"??? (And how many of the fans really today KNOW what YANKEES refers to???) Maybe they should change their name also to avoid "dishonoring" northerners in honor of General Grant and call themselves the NY "Countrymen"...

ANZALDIMAN: "Red Storm" is from Tom Clancy's novel, RED STORM RISING. If I'm not mistaken, his attempt to buy an NFL team for his beloved Baltimore fell through, so he used the money instead and bought the naming rights to the St. Johns teams. Just kidding. Seriously, my niece is a St. Johns alumnus---I wish that Clancy would have bought her a degree---her parents paid her way through SJ. After many years, she finally got her degree---just by the skin of her teeth.

ORIGINALTHINKR: I'm sure glad the Catholic Church got up in arms over SOMETHING. They sure looked the other way when it came to predatory priests.

And what's the Catholic Church going to do when settling the lawsuits over the wayward priests forces them to hand over the keys to their brand-spanking-new $180 million Los Angeles Cathedral (derisively referred to as the "Taj Mahoney" and the "Rog Mahal")?

Maybe it can be converted into a Holiday Inn or bowling alley...

I hate all the PC stuff as much as anyone. However, if it's important to be PC for Jews and Blacks and Asians and on and on, then why isn't it important to do so for the most poorly treated minority group in this country? Nobody would be having the discussion if the team were called "The Washington Niggers". Everyone would act outraged.

I don't know...it'd scare the crap out the rest of the league, and they'd probably win every game by forfeit because the opposition'd fail to show up each Sunday. Besides, there isn't anything Washington D.C. wants more than a winning NFL team, so this'd be a small price to pay...

LOL, Original! I just realized how preachy my post sounded. I certainly didn't mean for it to be that way. I was just making a point, not preaching!

You see, I never thought the name "Redskins", was disrespectful at all.. I felt it was empowering.I thought the logo was empowering..It's not like they had an Indian with a hand out, and a bottle in his other hand staggering on the helmet! C'mon! Think about it! We have a famous team, nobody seems to really care about "protesting" about named YANKEES!!A "deragatory" term(I guess George,Joe, Mickey and the Babe changed all that.....Ahem.. ) used to represent fat rich "ignorant" northerners...And we can argue about that too!! Next thing you know, all the fish, game, and wildlife will all show up or fly in protesting..And, I guess the Vikings and Raiders would kill, cook and eat them!! More protests!
