Next week Intrada plans to release a CD about which, given my obsessions with both Jerry Goldsmith and unused scores, I can only say OMFG!!!!. For those who don't mind soundtrack CD release spoilers, go to this Message Board thread.

The latest CD from Quartet is a remastered (and composer-approved) release of one of John Williams' most off-beat scores, his Oscar-nominated music for Robert Altman's surreal 1972 psychological thriller IMAGES, starring Susannah York and the late, great Rene Auberjonois.

Music Box has announced three new CD releases: an expanded version of Maurice Jarre's score for the 1964 WWII drama WEEK-END A ZUYDCOOTE (released in the U.S as Weekend at Dunkirk); a CD featuring music from three Philippe Sarde scores, ALLONS Z'ENFANTS (1981), L'HONNEUR D'UN CAPITAINE (A Captain's Honor, 1982) and LA MAISON ASSASSINEE (The Murdered House, 1988); and a disc featuring three scores composed by Jean-Claude Vannier, LES CHEMINS DE KATMANDOU, PARIS N'EXISTE PAS (both composed with Serge Gainsbourg) and LA BETE NOIRE.

Varese Sarabande is expected to announce two new limited edition CD Club releases today.

DID THEY MENTION THE MUSIC?

DRUNK BUS - Nathaniel Eras, Jimmy Stofer, Alan Wilkis

"Audio choices consistently shift from the initial atmospheric sound setting. A Yo La Tengo-esque beat setting a fall-asleep at the wheel stage all but disappears after stretches of quiet, followed by sudden spikes in the score, almost always underlining an emotion already being expressed by other narrative factors. There are dialog scenes in which the ambient background noise is actively distracting, and key moments which are unfortunately over-directed (one featuring 'Moonrise Kingdom’s' Kara Hayward, whose casting rings amusing given the flick’s 'Paterson'-lite framework, but who is saddled with a standard Manic Pixie Perfect College Girl character)."

Andrew Bundy, The Playlist

THE DRY - Peter Raeburn

"It's a tangle of suspicion, sham, and buried memory, and the land becomes something of a metaphor for the corrosive power of evil as Aaron wanders around this shriveled, devastated community. The drought has turned vast stretches of the area into dry scrub. Anything green seems to have vanished from the earth, and the streets go empty come nightfall. He visits the forest and river where they played as kids and where Ellie died. Now, it's just dry wasteland, all cracks and dust. An atmosphere of barren dread permeates the film, enhanced immeasurably by Peter Raeburn's elegantly moody score."
