When people here talk about Holy Grails, they are usually referring to stuff they would like to see on CD someday, but as of yet, it does not exist.

But some CDs do exist that people truly covet and yet they cannot find. Or maybe they cannot find, but cannot afford.

Do you have such a Holy Grail?

It appears you are asking about two different Holy Grails, so I'll divide my lists:

[Personal] Holy Grails I own:
(some of these I had wanted for twenty years; I refer to only complete/expanded remasterings, not old commercially released issues)
"Ghostbusters" (though I'd be right there for a better mastered, complete edition)
"Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan"
"STar Trek IV: The Voyage Home"
"Star Trek V: The Final Frontier"
"The Journey of Natty Gann"
"Something Wicked This Way Comes" (replacement score)
"Gladiator" (rejected Goldsmith score)
"Batman: The Animated Series"
"Explorers"
"Knight Rider" (I think I have five CD's now -- still not enough)
"CHiPs" (got all three -- wish there had been a 1 to 2CD set for season one)
"The Great Escape"
"Emporer of the North" (wish the tapes for the film recordings existed!)
"Baby: Secret of A Lost Legend"
"Capricorn One"
"Spaceballs"
"Predator"
"MillenniuM"

Holy Grails I don't own 'cause I don't have the money, or didn't have the money, or still have yet to trade for them:
(as always, not necessarily a complete list)
"North By Northwest"
"Star Trek: Generations"
"Star Trek: First Contact"
"Star Trek: Insurrection"
"The X-Files"
"Superman" (set)

This is not a complete listing.

Looks like it's how I remembered: Intrada has released most of my personal Holy Grails.

I missed Kritzerland's total re-master of the complete CARRIE score, and FSM's KING KONG: THE DELUXE EDITION. But later on, both were re-released and I bought them.

I'm currently waiting for a package to arrive: the two BIONIC WOMAN volumes I don't have yet, but I ordered the other day from www.joeharnell.com. [If you can only get one thing there, I'd recommend THE FILM MUSIC OF JOE HARNELL, a 2-disc set also available as individual tracks at iTunes. Despite the title, it's loaded with vintage, genre-TV cues.]

Overall, I feel very lucky and fulfilled at this point in soundtrack history. The music I've hotly desired is almost all here on my shelf now. As a Silver Age fan, I can't complain.

Now Playing: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Volume 3 (Stu Phillips, Intrada Special Collection).

Awesome topic idea!

Here's my list of Holy Grails I own:

Back to the Future
Batman Returns
Broken Arrow
Indiana Jones Scores
Independence Day
Godzilla
Rookie of the Year
Speed
Speed 2
Star Trek: Generations
Star Trek: First Contact

There's some more, but I can't think of them for now.

Ones I missed out on or plan to get:

Bloodsport
Robocop (This one bugs me more than any other)
Star Trek Insurrection

Yes, Batteries Not Included by James Horner.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier complete did it for me. I will never forget black Friday '10 and the announcement from La La Land. I waited 20 years for this one.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture 3CD. This one is the most amazing score release in the last 10 years, in my opinion. Pound for pound it beats them all. And it rectified the 1999 Sony edition.

Poltergeist II: The Other Side complete. Yes, this is one I've wanted for a long time now. Thank you, Kritzerland!

Runner up:

Gremlins complete

So we're talking about Holy Grails which have been released but which we haven't managed to get for some reason?

From the look of some people's lists, it would appear that there are more "real" Holy Grails around than "according to some, the authentic one", which you'll find in all the village chapels in my area.

I'm therefore narrowing my list down. I've still got dozens, perhaps hundreds, of releases on my "wants" list. I'm getting them little by little and will die before I get even half of them. But that's not what we're talking about, is it?

I'm not going to bandy around the term "Holy Grail" as if it were a plastic souvenir available at the corner shop, so I can honestly say that my answer is "No - I've got it." And that was Les Baxter's (FALL OF THE) HOUSE OF USHER. Mind you, it was touch and go for a while. It sold pretty quickly, but I was lucky.

True Holy Grails Which Are Out But I Missed - 0

CDs I'd Really Really Like to Have But Haven't Picked Up Yet and May Never Do So - 288

CDs I Wouldn't Mind Having in my Collection for Free - 10, 741

"Some Say Authentic" Holy Grails Which Haven't Been Released Yet - 7

My original Top 5 grail list that I had for many, many years were:

BACK TO THE FUTURE (Alan Silvestri)
INNERSPACE (Jerry Goldsmith)
FAMILY PLOT (John Williams)
GREMLINS (Jerry Goldsmith)
BLACK SUNDAY (John Williams)

We really are a very lucky group of soundtrack fans to have so many great scores released over the last few years. To tell the truth, if I were to have to put together another Top 5 grail list, I would be hard pressed to come up with 5 must-haves. I'd probably have to for the first time start to include rereleases and expansions to the list.

Maybe...

THE REINCARNATION OF PETER PROUD (Jerry Goldsmith)
THE ADVENTURES OF BRISCO COUNTY JR. (Randy Edelman)
STAR TREK: NEMESIS expanded (Jerry Goldsmith)
DRACULA expanded (John Williams)
THE SUGARLAND EXPRESS (John Williams)

or maybe THE TROUBLE WITH ANGELS, GLORY expanded, or YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES.

When Lukas announced he was releasing THE OMEGA MAN, it was one of those surreal moments that you never think will happen. It was early days for FSM and I didn't imagine anyone else shared the love I did for this score. I'm a Goldsmith junkie, with Williams and Barry close behind, but this beautiful, eerie jewel by Ron Grainer is a holy grail I still look upon with disbelief when I hold in my hands.

I don't understand why these are refered to as "Holy Grails" when the source material most of these scores are inspired by are any but "Holy". Anyway the most important score releases for me, where The Boy Who Could Fly, Harry and the Hendersons, and The Karate Kid 2.

Not the holiest of my grails - I have luckily been able to purchase all of those - but Bernstein's "Ghostbusters" and Morris' "Spaceballs" are releases that I covet, and then they disappeared and began to cost a buttload of money on the secondary market. Giacchino's "Star Trek" deluxe version as well, but I already have the OST so that one doesn't burn so much smile

To edit my old post:
I missread the original post. I own all of my above mentioned grails and there arn't any released grails that I don't own.

If it's released I buy it what ever the cost.

I bought the original FSM release of OMEGA MAN on Ebay for $160 many moons ago...
and how could I forget REVENGE OF THE NINJA by Rob Walsh and QUIET COOL by Jay Ferguson.
