Saw the movie last weekend and score was great! I went to Amazon.com and saw the CD was $10 and ordered it with a another CD to get my free shipping with over $25. I received an e-mail that said with the purchase of the CD, I get a free "AutoRip" of the score. I have downloaded a few things because Amazon gives you free downloads with purchases of CDs, so I decide since it is free I will try it. When the score was downloaded to my computer, I burned a CD-R to play in my car. I will have to wait until the real CD arrives, the music is so distorted it sound like I have the volume turned all way up when I am at half volume. I have never had this problem before with CD-Rs I burn, so I want to say the is problem with "AutoRip". This is another reason when the CDs disappear, I will not buy downloads.

If the real CD sounds like this, I will return it. It is not my computer I burned another of my new arrivals to play in the car. I do not want my good CDs to get scratched.

Are you sure it's not your burner, car CD player or whatever? Sometimes crap happens when burning.
Did you listen to the AutoRip before burning it?

I have never had anything from Amazon downloads even approaching this, nor have I ever heard about this on other AutoRips (though, I am perfectly open to hearing about it).

But then again, leave it to the FSM board to show me new levels of oddity. razz

Well, the mastering is awful, so this could be what you're talking about. Why orchestral music needs to be involved with this loudness fiasco is beyond me.

it is not my burner. As I said above, I rippped, then burned another CD-R of a different release and it sounds just fine. I did just go back and listen to the AutoRip on my computer and the distortion shows up there, but not as bad. I will wait until I get the real CD and rip/burn a new one for the car and see how it sounds.

Reading other thread about watermarking, could this be the problem here? If is, it is terrible.

I enjoy most of Brian Tyler's music immensely. Iron Man 3 is great, but not mastered very well IMHO. I am not sure if it was mastered too loud, or just not mixed very well. The music sounds compressed and isn't spaciousness enough. Iron Man 3 isn't Tylers only effort to sound this way.

Why are you burning a CD from MP3s? Don't you have an ipod or mp3 player you can play them from in the car? Anyway, it isn't anything to do with autorip, they just give you a mp3 download that you would get if you bought the mp3s direct from them. The problem is most likely with the label because Terra Nova (on La La Land) is much better sounding overall. The same label put out his Greatest Game Ever Played score, which also suffered from heavy bass in the mix.

Because if you read my previous post, I do not have the CD yet, it is being sent to me, but I wanted to listen to it now, since the download was free. No, I do not have an ipod or mp3 player for my car. It has a CD player and has sounded fine for every CD except this one. I have a mp3 player but with only earphones and I do not drive with them on.

I finally caught up with IRON MAN THREE (as the title actually appears in the film). The major film credits and the primary musical theme that plays over them is as exciting a two minutes as I've seen in the movies for a long time. It would have made a killer main title sequence, but of course main titles don't exist much anymore, particularly in this film, which, if I recall correctly, doesn't even display the film's title at the beginning. Even though the film is quite good, those first few minutes of the end credits are more exciting than the film's conclusion. Perhaps that's why they were relegated to the end of the film--if put at the beginning, the film itself would seem anticlimatic.

Eating crow now in public:

I have given the score a second chance - and I´m beginning to like it. It´s still not exactly what I love - but it´s much better than what I at first thought.

YOR will probably think that I was infected by the Zimmer virus through MOS (which made me reappreciate HZ big time).

Firstly, apologies for dragging up an old thread!

Could anyone with a copy of Iron Man 3 possibly check the centre of their disc and post whatever text/serial numbers/"made in..." information they see there. I just want to check something, if possible.

And (and further apologies here, because this is about a different soundtrack entirely, but I didn't want to drag up two old threads!) could you possibly do the same for Patrick Doyle's Thor?

Sorry and thanks to anyone who can help!
