Just got back from seeing this….score works well in the movie even if not my cup of tea to listen to. Great popcorn flick, well done and totally awesome Atmos sound. Wow!

Saw this yesterday in the motion D-Box seats with the family- the kid in me came out with a chance to "experience" flying fighter jets sitting in the seats so I sprang for that treat. WELL WORTH IT. I wasn't a huge fan of the first movie. Seeing it as a kid I was bored by the love story and felt the action was secondary. That's why Iron Eagle was a better movie for me, corny dialog and all, than Top Gun. This new movie was what I had hoped for as a kid playing with my G.I. Joe Sky Striker. Story and action first then the love story. Great movie. You can tell how much effort was put into making this film and that Cruise wanted people to experience what that sort of flying does to the pilots. It felt like an old-fashioned event film, but it was one with some heft to it. I think Tom Cruise is the last of the real movie stars. I go to see his action movies like I used to line up for Harrison Ford, Arnold and Sly movies way back when.

The music was good in the movie, and I just finished listening to the soundtrack. I don't care for modern songs, and one included here wasn't an exception (I Ain't Worried sure Ain't for me), but the Lady Gaga song, God help me, wasn't too bad. It sounded as though it could have been on the original soundtrack which I actually enjoyed. Kenny Loggins' Danger Zone was/is awesome and is present too which is great. The score seemed subdued, however. Standout tracks were Darkstar and The Man, The Legend/Touchdown, but the new or updated Anthem was merely ok. I'm sure there's a lot not released, and I understand the Japanese version includes another action track which I'd love to hear so hopefully there's more to come.

I'll go back to see the movie again, and I'm sure my son will want to go too (he's only a year older than I was when the original came out- by the way, he liked Iron Eagle better than original Top Gun too), but the new soundtrack won't get the play the original has gotten over the year despite the lack of score tracks. I've already combined the best of both for a nice CD for my drive to work though!

I also liked Iron Eagle better (I choose to ignore the sequels.)

I just got back from FINALLY seeing this movie. I absolutely loved it. However, I was kind of underwhelmed with the score. It just made me hope that a score release from the first movie is not too far behind. It wasn’t that the music for Maverick was bad, just didn’t really grab me. It kind of felt like Beverly Hills Cop III did as compared to the first two BHC scores.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but just listened to the soundtrack. I was very disappointed. It sounds like they didn't let Faltermeyer do anything, sounds just like generic Balfe synth orchestra sounds. If you want to hear the kind of score I was hoping for, check out Meteor's Defender of the Fleet soundtrack. It's a game, but it's pure 80's awesomeness!

I happened to really enjoy the Maverick album, but I gave your recommendation a spin over the weekend whilst mowing the lawn.

I actually LOVED it! Great album. Thanks!

That was the best film I’ve seen in ages. Run don’t walk to see this in IMAX or Dolby Cinema before that dinosaur movie takes the screens. Fantastic use of music, score, and songs. I’m seeing it again tomorrow and dragging my friends along with me. This goes to show that when you start out with a crackerjack script you can’t go anywhere but up. I don’t think I’ve ever sat and ordered tickets for another showing during the end credits in my life haha.

Loved the movie. I've seen it twice already.

The score is good too but wish it was longer so looking forward to an expanded edition.

Target has an exclusive CD cover if anyone is interested.

The score worked so well in this film. This was just popcorn fun from start to finish. I have no complaints about this movie. Go and see it! Turn off your brain for a few hours and enjoy!

It’s like studios are surprised that audiences enjoy an uplifting well-made action movie with a true movie star.

Hopefully, this will bring back movies which are fun despite no involvement of superheroes.

Loved the movie, end sequence made me start to tear up a bit as cheesy as that is. Music could have been a bit more Faltermeyer and a little less Zimmer I thought, but it worked. Was there a mention of an expanded release? There are definitely some missing tracks.

Still hoping for a full release of the original movie score as well!

Just got back from watching it in 4DX! That was insane!! Excellent good "old" action movie. It was just as I hoped it would be (and then some!). Score sounded great in the movie and I cant wait to listen to it outside the movie.

Bring on that expanded/complete release Lorne Balfe promised us!

After finally seeing this movie (we loved it!) I really stand by how poor this album presentation of the score it. There is probably about 85% of content missing. And everything I wanted to hear after the movie is nowhere to be found. Really anticipating this expected release that Balfe teased.

This is exactly how I feel about it. It was like action movies of days past. I loved it.

Lord what an awful song.

Loud and over produced.

Almost everything is these days. Whatever happened to the basic elements of music?
Melody, harmony and dynamics.

I just wish the sequel had included new songs from Cheap Trick, Teena Marie, Miami Sound Machine, Larry Greene and Marietta. I didn't see or hear any new songs from these artists in the film.

The new songs in the film would have been a lot better if they had been written/produced by Harold Faltermeyer or Giorgio Moroder.
