I don't think anyone here would disagree with you on that. I liked the Lady Gaga song fair enough. But the '86 film has a better soundtrack.
Yes, the original film has a vastly superior soundtrack.
The new film feels a lot mellower, especially the action scenes, just needed a bit more energy, but overall it did work well within the film, hence the gaga theme used throughout.
I think they should have used more rock songs like the original, would have made it even better.

While I am a huge Tony Scott fan through and through, I think the new film outpaces his regarding action sequences. With modern abilities and Cruise's instance on realism and as much practical photography as possible the new sequences are superb examples of filmmaking (as was the original in '86) and especially action sequence editing and montage. I think the energy was perfect but overall the film matches the melancholy of the original. My wife was astounded in how both films seemed to focus their best energies on the emotional states of men and how sensitive they are. She expected them to just be machismo fests (and they are, respectively) but she appreciates Action movies more if they can really commit to emotional thematics.
As far as rock music, unfortunately it seems like a dead or mostly dying genre in this age. Pop music soars supreme (not that there is anything wrong with that). This band OneRepublic is atrocious, IMO, and I would be happy to see their omission from the beach flag touch football sequence but that is out of my control.

Something like these maybe.
Kristine is an awesome group. Great modern synthwave artist. Thank you for introducing her to more people.
Now that the digital version of this movie has been released, I wonder if the score album is still in the works or is going to be released soon? Unless LLL or Intrada have something planned, and this is going to be one of their Black Friday releases?

Lorne Balfe did confirm last week (or maybe two weeks ago) that it is still happening. Didnt say when though. I was really hoping for this week!
This expanded score release still hasn't surfaced yet which is surprising given the film has been available on digital platforms for a while. The Blu-Ray releases next week. I wonder if the score album is going to be a Black Friday LLL surprise.
I have just watched the movie recently and I'm not sure there's enough music for a 2 CD release. Yes, the original album is quite short but there's not much music missing. The only way to fill a CD with enough additional score is to contain suites or early ideas and demos like on other Zimmer CDs. That would be great.
