Wow, where is the love for Barry Gray today?

:-)

Ford A. Thaxton

I've ALWAYS loved Barry Gray's music ( from the ago of about 5). I met and worked with him in 1981 on a Premiere as well. He was a really nice man & hapilly signed my Space:1999 LP for me (I still have it).
Well done Ford, MVG, Ralph Titterton & Tim Mallet (of the Barry Gray estate), Nick Redman & Mike Matessino for finally getting this out!

Cheers

I wish he were still around so you could convey him my extreme gratitude for his great music. The Thunderbirds-theme was the anthem for a fantastic world and a great element in childhood days. Nowadays that childhood energy is still there but it has been accompanied by the joy of it being very listenable music too that can be enjoyed even by civilians (non film-score fans).

Thunderbird 6 is on YouTube if you want to hear more of the music. The cinematography and camera work is amazing. At times I kept forgetting I was watching a puppet show.

Finally ... the Columbia LP of Tiomkin's WILD IS THE WIND ...

... arrives onto CD along with the original tracks.

This should be one of the highlights for 2014, I think, in Bob DiMucci's annual LP-to-CD threads around December. smile

La-La Land is the current Champion (pun) of Dimitri Tiomkin's music.

Absolutely incredible. The RCA album was my introduction to film music when my father brought it home back in '57, the old man thinking it would contain Magnani singing Scaptricciatiello. No such luck on the re-recording, but I ate that LP for breakfast, carefully placing the needle after Mathis' vocal. Now we get the re-recording and the complete soundtrack, which I hope includes Magnani (or the someone dubbing her?) singing Scaptricciatiello. Back in the day, I suggested this title to Lukas Kendall, who said unlikely 'cause RCA probably wouldn't play ball. I'm grateful things have changed.

Awesome stuff. Ordered Wild is the Wind. Not only does it have great sounding samples on the first disc but also a stereo re-recording album. Can't go wrong with that.

"Wild is the wind" doesn't mean anything never having seen the film to me but it's Tiomkin so I will definitely give the sound samples a go.

surely everyone has heard the Simone or Bowie version?

I once had the Thunderbirds Are Go! LP.
Replaced it with the EMI CD (with the Cliff & Shadows tracks).
Also have the Silva Screen Thunderbirds & Thunderbirds 2 TV CDs.
Thunderbirds Are Go!/Thunderbird 6 ordered on the day of release.
Thank you La La Land.

I have no idea what this movie is either. I just like Tiomkin's music and enjoy the samples.

Who wrote the lyrics? "Hungriness?"

Yeah, not the most felicitous of words. The lyrics were from Ned Washington, who must have been having an off-day, as I think his lyrics for "The Nearness of You," "Green Dolphin Street," "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You," and "When You Wish Upon a Star" are quite lovely, and fit the melodies very well.

In any event, I happily ordered both of these, and am greatly looking forward to both - I loved the "Thunderbirds" scores when I watched the recent Twilight Time double-feature, and I have too little Barry Gray in my collection. Hurray!

The re-recording has always been mono-only, but it does sound very good.

Oh, yeah. I see that in the press release. But yeah it does sound pretty amazing.

So this would mean that you want to know how popular t-bagging is at the moment?

5,4,3,2,1 Thunderbirds Are Go.

Well they are according to the email I received from La La Land this morning.

International Rescue are winging their way to the United Kingdom as I type.

Hurrah.

Thunderbirds are go/Thunderbird 6 is clearly the 'hotter' title. I thought this was the one set at 2,500 copies.

Because the Tiomkin had to be licensed from Sony, 2500 was the lowest they could go, just like A Certain Smile.
