Is the new "Batman: TAS "set likely to be the last CD release in the series? Posted July, 2012: While working on Vol 2 a number of episodes of the first "65" got the axe and will be featured on Vol 3: Robin's Reckoning Parts 1 and 2, Day of the Samurai and The Clock King to name a few. Our plan is to have Vol 3 out next year (possibly another 4 disc set). That would be all the music we would release from the first 65. We are also contemplating releasing an empty box when vol 3 comes out so people can put all 3 volumes inside. It would be like $5 (or around there) if people wanted to buy it separately or free with purchase of Vol 3...something like that. Then we would focus on the "Adventures of Batman and Robin" and "The New Batman Adventures." Hopefully, Superman TAS, Justice League (TAS and Unlimited) and the two BTAS animated direct to DVD movies (Subzero and Batwoman) will also see the light of day in the next few years. This is some of the finest music written for television. It's been a joy and honor to bring these out and we hope to continue to mine this incredible slate of superhero music. We are also looking into stuff like Animaniacs and Tiny Toons. The ealry 90's was truly the 2nd Golden Age of Animation at Warners Bros. We are doing our part to preserve that legacy. MV The box was nixed.

I was already planning to buy the three Howard shore albums (don't need'em signed, though). The Titan AE album looks good, and I suspect my lunch money will be spent on that mystery album (Ladyhawke???)

You'll be missing out then, because the team Walker assembled was top notch and they followed her lead musically. This is probably the greatest scoring for television since the original Twilight Zone. At least listen to the samples of the other composers' work... Yavar

ALWAYS buy ALL Newman releases. After all, I'm a Newman-iac. MAN HUNT is good Newman, though the love theme consists of variations on the song, "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square." (As for the movie, it's always fun to see stalwart Walter Pidgeon hoodwink sly Nazi George Sanders. And who could resist poor Cockney Joan Bennett, with that lovely arrow in her beret? Not to mention slick direction by, of all people, Fritz Lang, expatriate German.) But what variations! Newman can make you tear up with that "string sound" of his, which no one else was ever able to duplicate. Who ever knew this score was even around? Great release! Must buy!

That's usually the case for me too, but seeing that I'd have to buy a 4CD set with music by FOURTEEN other composers I've no interest in, just to get the Walker tracks, I find it easy to resist this time. A full third of the music on this set is by Shirley Walker. That said, we have a vast difference of opinion regarding the many wonderful composers being featured here! Shirley chose her team with great care, and upheld consistently high standards. As supervising composer, her influence can be felt in each and every score. Yet she also nurtured her team's distinct voices, and made space for them to develop as individuals. The bottom line is that her life and career were inseparable from her role as guide, mentor and friend -- and nowhere was that more true than on BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES. These releases strive to reflect and honor that accomplishment. In any event, I do hope you will check out the samples when the time comes!
