Timmer thinks THE BETSY was the yellow roadster driven by Jon Pertwee's DOCTOR WHO! razz

I never remember John Barry scoring BESSIE, not even at his 60's ladies man best.

The full quote from Barry (to Martyn Crosthwaite) was: "On The Betsy they had a situation where the theme was not considered commercial enough. It was fine for the film, but not for recording purposes. That's a dilemma we constantly go through. However, I couldn't see why it shouldn't be released if the theme was reframed in a commercial vein like say the theme from Love Story (1970)."

So the concern was not that the film wasn't selling, but that, in the late 1970s, Barry's style of music wasn't likely to sell. All that matters for Prometheus is that it sells now.

Delighted to hear about this release. Yes, it's been a lean spell for Barry fans, but with the recent issue of Mr Moses followed by The Betsy, hopefully this marks a new beginning. Still remember the UK film review programme, Film 77 (I think that was the year, but I stand corrected if I'm wrong) with Barry Norman showing a clip of LO in bed with Katherine Ross. A real oddity.

Ah, The Betsy by Harold Rob-bins. I thought you meant that awful man... what's his name? Harold Robinson! Have you read any Harold Robinson?

Good old Basil.

And people wonder why I think we're living in a golden age for film score fans.

Month after month, year after year, holes in our collections keep getting filled, either by painstakingly restored original recordings, or painstakingly recreated re-recordings.

My hat comes off to all those involved; the work you do is comprehended by few, but appreciated by many.

Plus, of course, it's a new John Barry! Yay!

I am ready to hear of a release date for THE BETSY. No telling what it could have been (and we may never know) but I must admit I am curious as to why it was recorded just a little over a year ago and it took so long for it to get released. PROMETHEUS YOU ROCK !

Because Prometheus is in no hurry to release any recording...they like to release them when the time is right...plus having previously recorded QBVII, HOUR OF THE GUN and SALAMANDER in a very short time, I feel they wanted to get some money back on their huge investment

Makes perfect sense sir ! The business model has to be taken into account. I was just curious the reasons.

Will this title not be available to purchase from SAE? I can't see it listed there.

Yeh! Now, the big question is ...

Decisions!

Later in 1971, the New York Times reported that CVC partner Bruce Geller brought in his company, Bruce Geller Productions, to co-produce the film. However, Geller is not credited in the film.

I thought his company was called Unit Productions (as seen on Hunter, which he made after Paramount kicked him off Mission: Impossible).
