That is assuming he survives the demo process...... How any interesting choices didn't and they went with a Safer one... I'm a cynic Ford A. Thaxton

Do we really think Mothersbaugh will last by the time the movie comes out? Hell, the Remote Control composer assigned to score this movie probably hasn't even hatched from his cocoon yet.

I should hate everything about that trailer... overuse of CGI, constant irritating use of classic rock song, and obvious stylistic/thematic parallels to Guardians of the Galaxy... but I still couldn't help but be intrigued by this! The casting of Jeff Goldblum, Mark Ruffalo, and Karl Urban are a plus, and I'm interested to see if the director dials up the comedic aspects to get away from "Shakespeare in the park." I'm completely unfamiliar with Mark Mothersbaugh, but I'll give him a chance! OMG, everything about that trailer is cringe worthy. Whaaaat? Everything about this trailer is applause-worthy! And how can anyone not break out in joyous laughter when Thor is so relieved and delighted, saying YEEEEEES!!! Brilliant trailer - makes me want to see this film so much more. As for the score, well Mothersbaugh would be surprising indeed. But probably Giacchino is already contacted to write the replacement score.

This looks like they finally made a good Thor movie! The first one was superb - and I say that as someone who found the Thor comic books to be the most boring in the Marvel stable. The Dark World wasn't up to much I agree. I loved both of them. But it's interesting that all three films look like they are taking a different tone each time.

Wow, this trailer completely baffled me. What's with the '80s graphics for the titling? Are they trying to associate it with "Guardians of the Galaxy"? Thor is so strange, because when he’s in an Avengers movie, he’s just a Norse god who lives on Earth and hangs around with his buddies. But in his own movies, he lives in a magical world with floating boats and speaks in a very stilted, theatrical way (“I would have you stand by my side for the eternity of the nine realms!”). And Loki repeatedly dies and returns. So what are the stakes? I guess this is just not for me. That could be part of it, but I'm guessing they're trying to prep audiences for Taika Waititi's scrappy irreverent sensibility so that people don't go in expecting another solemn proto-Tolkien affair. I was nervous that Waititi would be yet another distinct voice to get sanded down by the Marvel machine (and I'm sure this is still going to be true to an extent), but the trailer at least indicates that the studio's trying to meet him half-way. The Thor who bursts out "We know each other from work!" is much closer to the affable dude-bro Thor from the Waititi-directed internet shorts than the Shakespearean He-Man from the earlier movies. I'm hoping (unreasonably, I realize) that they hired Mothersbaugh because Waititi wants the film to have retro-Mothersbaugh music, not because they're expecting Mothersbaugh to transform into Brian Tyler.

I'm not sure I disagree. Thor is either a "stuffy Shakespearean" speaking Godling, or he's firing off jokey one-liners that are all too human ("he's a friend from work"). Honestly, as someone who has read decades of his comic, most of which were pretty forgettable, I'm not thrilled they keep making him a "regular guy." There's so little of "Thor" in this trailer and, yes, it's VERY "Guardians." Annoyingly so. Will they even address the unresolved plot threads of Thor: The Dark World? Is Anthony Hopkins even IN this movie? Eh. I'm not impressed. The first film was excellent, the second was a huge step down and this doesn't look promising based on the preview. I'm sure it'll be fun, but it seems Marvel is pushing the "comedy" button pretty hard. While DC goes with dour grey (except on TV where they get it just right). Great damned song, though. And appropriate.

(Siff was acting on some weird orders from "Odin".) "Friend from work" didn't quite hit the mark. But "YES!!!" totally did.
