I've enjoyed all the M:I scores so far, but honestly the ones I wind up listening to the most are the two composed by Giacchino. There is such a wonderful energy, so many catchy melodic hooks and such colorful instrumentation, especially in "Ghost Protocal", similar to his music for "Alias". Nothing wong with Elfman's, although I only can listen to the first 10 minutes and the last 15 minutes, the middle part just drags. Zimmer's is a great kick-ass listen, a real punch of testosterone and Kraemer introduced some wonderful new themes and variations.
Hugely disappointing non-assignment news. Kraemer score was the best of the series since Elfman's masterpiece and I always thought it was obvious he would return given his exclusive relationship with McQuarry and the fact that Cruise praised both "Jack Reacher" and "Rogue Nation". Plus it looks like the movie has some returning characters from the previous movie... When Kraemer was handled an award for "Rogue Nation" he even finished by something like "see you for the next one"!
Williams' "Ready Player One" and this were on my highest 2018 anticipation list early last year :-( Well, at least we'll have "Solo"! (right?)
Kraemer also said someone else has already been hired:
Joe Kraemer ?@joekraemer They’ve hired someone else. Don’t know who.
Giacchino has"Jurrassic Wolrd" and the "Incredibles 2" this summer, so I doubt it would be him. Elfman has only a Van Sant movie in May, Tyler has just "Crazy Rich Asians" for August.
Bring back Silvestri!
Yes!!!!
Hmmm... not sure about this. I have heard Silvestri's score to the original synced to the picture (thanks to our own The Mutant, I believe), and found it terrible and totally understands why it was ultimately rejected...
Tyler has been already recording his Asians score.
Elfman/Sant movie premiered at Sundance and therefore has been finished A LONG TIME ago. And he also has Grinch and Burton´s Dumbo coming up - not to mention some concert work assignments.
Looking around, the repeated rumor is Brian Tyler. Given in another thread we were told he'd be announced for a franchise soon, I'm putting my money on him being the composer.
Agreed. John Scott is the only composer out there with his finger on the pulse of what kids what to hear in a Mission: Impossible score in 2018. Does the PGA allow producers be sued for malpractice? They should be if John Scott isn't airlifted onto this project IMMEDIATELY.
In the unlikely event that Mr. Scott is unavailable, I hope that the producers do the nest best thing and get Gerald Fried to write the music or Mark Sterling, who DJ'd my wedding in 2007 for a VERY reasonable rate.
Tyler wouldn't surprise me but he is also the complete opposite to what McQuarrie prefers from film music (which is often understated and dramatic, while Tyler is the Action Sequence Music Machine.)
