Okay, this is already the best Varese batch in years. YESSSSSSS! Wouldn't Williams's biggest pre-Star Wars score be generally considered to be JAWS? But I don't care, I love THE COWBOYS just as much! One of my very favorite Williams scores EVER. Yavar It's one of his loveliest, happiest scores ever, one of my first CDs ever, a complete blind buy, and what a rewarding one it's been too!

Hehe you did a great layman's job, but judging from comments at the JWFan forum, Jay here has some inside info. Apparently the "alternate Main Title" on the old release was mislabeled according to him:
No inside info necessary, the liner notes of this release state as such.

This score sounds absolutely amazing. Mike did one heck of a job on this. He really gave this the care and love it deserves. This is easily becoming one of my all time favorites by John Williams.

Not only did that alternate not sound like the rest of the score, it didn't sound all that much like Williams. Very happy for this new release, a truly spectacular score (Small Soldiers ain't shabby either, but Cowboys is a true classic).
