Kind of diappointing that Lukas is getting into the bullshit "clues" game. frown One reason why the release of Twilight Zone: The Movie was so awesome is how it dropped out of nowhere.

how about the expanded and complete STAR TREK -TMP and the timing is good too. but seriously a STAR TREK BOX SET would be nice.

then again Williams DRACULA would be MOST Impressive!

or INNERSPACE/ GREMLINS ...the list is gonna go up?

I wonder if it is "The Towering Inferno" beause "hot" could be used to describe it. Of course the original FSM release, I believe, contains all of the music and could be considered complete.

Re: site design, would there be a way for you to institute an RSS feed so people can follow the FSM blog without manually checking the front page or the message board?

Wouldn't a release such as TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE be just as awesome if it was announced before the street date, though? Just look at Batman: TAS, for instance. A whole lot of people sure got riled up that day when La-La Land announced it a week in advance.

How rude! First of all, it wasn't really a clue. He's just excited about a new release. Secondly, the release of "Twilight Zone: The Movie" would have been every bit as awesome had it been preceded by a clue, been announced a week before, or been released from helicopters circling overhead.

I enjoy clues and I enjoy surprises. What I don't enjoy is people who demand that all other fans -- and producers -- share their personal preferences.

I'm guessing the "hot" summer release will be Gremlins. A more complete Gremlins has long been one of many people's holy grails and would definitely warrant an unlimited release. And, it would be even hotter than the TZ:TM release if we're talking Goldsmith since that one was pretty complete before. It's Warner like the other two, but then again Lukas didn't mention the studio for this one. If the term "hot" is a hint, then it may not apply to Gremlins though, unless it's the heat of the "bright lights". If it's not Gremlins, then "Gizmo caca"!

I'd somehow force myself to take North's Spartacus, North's Dragonslayer, Broughton's Young Sherlock Holmes or William's Dracula instead (my remaining Holy Grails now that TZ:TM has been released)! Wait a second, Dragonslayer, "hot" would apply to that, but I'm not sure it would sell anywhere near even 3000 copies and it did have a pretty complete presentation on Southern Cross that I somehow managed to miss. Nah, can't be. Nevermind.

By the way, if I somehow managed to guess right and was the first, do I get a free copy?! smile

Jonathan, I think that Herrmann's OBSESSION would eventually sell 3,000 copies.

The key word there, obviously, is "eventually." If a soundtrack label honcho is gunning for a 24 hour sellout, then 3,000 of just about anything might be difficult to move that quickly. Even a complete SPARTACUS might take some time to sell 3,000 copies.

A quality title (such as OBSESSION) from a favorite composer (such as Herrmann) can still sell 3,000 copies, IMO.

A bit disappointing, yes, but I doubt he's gonna make a habit out of it.

I think it's nice having some idea of what's coming.
I can't think of any other types of music (or books, or anything) where things just appear out of the blue.

Why can't folks just get over the clues thing already!

Oh, and by the way, Lukas did give a "clue" for Twilight Zone in the thread where someone asked where was number whatever it was. And the "clue" was simply "you'll want it." Wow - major clue.

What say you we normal folks finally turn the tables and banish all those who get sooo riled up about "clues" to another FSM board all their own,and they can all talk to and annoy each other there - all 3 or 4 of them.

Regards releases, we now have two "biggies" coming this summer, one from Prometheus and this one from FSM, plus La La Land promises a few "wows!" Good times for us soundtrack fans, and thanks to LK et al for Twilight Zone and One Little Indian and Dr. Kildare and all the other fun stuff coming out that makes us all happy - happy! It should make us happy all you grumpy "clues" folks! Get over it and be happy!wink

the only film I can find in the Shuken or Hayes imdb credits that was issued on WB

There is more in heaven and earth than what's listed on IMDb. I know that Shuken and Hayes composed the score to at least one episode of Wagon Train (and no, neither FSM CD is Wagon Train) but that's not listed on IMDb (although it probably will be after someone reads this post).

Agreed, Jeff - a loose reference rather than a serious tool.

Hi gang -- I thought I was clear that these were scores that Shuken and Hayes ORCHESTRATED (they did not compose anything). Many some people know but composers tended to have their regular "guy," like Arthur Morton for Jerry Goldsmith or Herb Spencer for John Williams (Conrad Pope nowadays). S&H regularly worked for...does anyone know? I can think of five major ones from late '60s, early '70s.

Not Body Heat. Didn't mean sexy literally.
lk

Speaking of Barry, it could be of course THE DEEP.

Or THE BLACK HOLE, if Disney is actually opening their vaults for not only Intrada but for all the speciality labels.

Both of these would easily make sense for an unlimited run.

Hoping, just hoping...

With Shuken & Hayes I think of Elmer Bernstein, & then there's Alfred Newman & Quincy Jones, but it's tying them up with a Warner soundtrack release. I dunno.

When I read Shuken and Hayes, I thought: BERNSTEIN!!

We do have one CD scheduled for this summer that if anything will be MORE sexy than Twilight Zone: The Movie. A real Holy Grail that has been released before, but never complete.

From reading here and over at Intrada, I would say that there are only a couple of scores fit that description:

Back to the Future
The Black Hole
Gremlins

I'm sure there are others (Link by Goldsmith?), but these are the titles that get bandied around the most in the "guessing" threads.

Some comments.....

1- The musical Lukas mentioned was a "classic MGM musical".....not Warner Bros.

2- ALL of CAMELOT could not be contained on a single $19.98 FSM disc.

3- Did Lukas say---"two Shuken-Hayes-orchestrated scores on Warner Bros. Records soundtrack lps" OR "from Warner Bros. soundtracks which had been previously released on lps"? BIG DIFFERENCE!!! For example, it could be a Warners film score from ROBIN AND THE SEVEN HOODS, originally released on Reprise, or THE GREAT RACE, originally released on RCA (certainly a "Holy Grail" for some).

4- Lukas didn't rule out the possibility that he has ALREADY released the lp version on CD---like AUNTIE MAME, PARRISH, HOTEL, ANY WEDNESDAY, ROME ADVENTURE, PETULIA, NOT WITH MY WIFE, YOU DON'T, etc.....

5- Could this be an extended CHEYENNE AUTUMN?

6- When he says previously-released soundtracks, could Lukas also mean soundtrack re-recordings?

7- Could Lukas mean "Warner Bros Television", like HAWAIIAN EYE, 77 SUNSET STRIP, etc?

Remember that Lukas and these other record producers are not ninnies, and when they give us clues they are intelligent, fiendish and devilishly clever with their words and can parse them very carefully to send us reeling down the wrong paths. smile

Like lawyers presenting their cases, I don't trust 'em until I see the evidence! smile
