I know that some are not fond of these two scores... but, they were excellent. And, in all technicality the reason I started really listening for James Horner scores.
I saw WOLFEN on one of the large theater screens in 81 in MD... the experience and his score were just amazing. The movie remains one of my favorites to this day.
THE HAND... great horror score hands (no pun intended) down.
It's funny because WOLFEN's score (what's in the movie) is almost 60 percent THE HAND. From what I know it was in the temp, Safan got fired, they hired Horner but becuase he had like only two weeks to do the picture a lot of the temp stayed in it. So an ultimate WOLFEN CD should feature THE HAND as well. That'd be a double header I'd buy in a heartbeat :-)
Concerning WOLFEN, Horner didn't sound like he didn't like the score/his work, it sounded more like there were major legal (personal) issues that would prevent a proper release. Could have just been in a bad mood, too.
Over at Intrada, they've said that The Hand will NOT see a CD release, due to 'rights issues' AND Horner not wanting it released. Looks like another early Horner score (also Battle Beyond The Stars) that the composer ain't too fond about revisiting. Shame, as your Wolfen soundtrack will never be truly complete without the temp-tracked cues from The Hand that ended up in there Guess the crummy boot will have to remain
That sucks, to me Horner's Wolfen was a great release and alongside Humanoids from the Deep an often played album! I love to listen to both and I'm sure "The Hand" would fit in nicely as well.

Some light perhaps? Doug Fake has now added - over at Intrada - that Horner is not against a release of the score to THE HAND, but is only happy when all issues and license problems are resolved. It seems this score has quite a few. Horner is also 'thinking about' allowing a CD release of DEADLY BLESSING to go ahead. Doug says that Horner is a joy to work with on their CD releases and really cares about the product quality for our small, limited fanbase.

Maybe someday he will also supply tapes for HUMANOIDS ... and BATTLE BEYOND ...
