But really, this hodgepodge of producers is not making me very confident about this movie.
Granted, the multitude of people named as producers does not mean that all of them actually had a lot to say. Many times they just have it in their contract to be named (and payed) when the project already has gone to other hands, and this particular property went from one interested party to the next.
Still, Horner would have made me interested in the score. Jablonsky however will be called upon to deliver the usual stuff.
Mind you, I really want to be proven wrong on this and hear Jablonsky deliver a rousing, wonderfully orchestrated score that does not sound like TRANSFORMERS or any Zimmer-clone.
IMDB is never a reliable source, at least not until it's confirmed by someone else. But I see this as plausible, and I have a feeling we'll be seeing a confirmation soon.
If true, though, it all but kills my interest in the film.
I heard that most of the post production team was fired (besides re-shooting some scenes), so no wonder they kicked out Horner.
If true, that kind of post-production tinkering means we're unlikely to get a miracle and see "Steamboy II: Electric Boogaloo" from Jablonsky, and that it's more likely a POTC-style super-rush job. That's almost more deeply depressing than swapping Horner for Jablonsky in the first place.
The film isn't released for several months so there's no particular reason for the score to be rushed. I can't seriously imagine it making much difference to the quality of it though, it could probably just be improvised on a few keyboards and it's hard to imagine it could be worse than most of Jablonsky's music.
I'm not a massive jablonsky fan, but I think his work has been getting better over the years, to the point where I'm actually pretty interested to hear what he comes up with for this. Scores like Steamboy and Your Highness show he has a greater gift for melody than most people assume, I think the problem is he often gets hired specifically to write less melodic stuff.
Well as I have no interest in Card or his work due to his bigoted views I can skip the whole endeavor.
This. I'm not putting a single penny in that asshole's pocket.
I must have missed that one. What 'bigoted views' are you talking about?
[edit] forget it. I googled about him. Living here in the UK probably shielded me from this aspect about this author. I believe he is religiously motivated - not that excuses his repugnant views - is that correct?
As indefensible as his views are, I hope I'm never obliged to read anything else by the interviewer either. Because of her writing style, not her lifestyle, by the way.
