Disney has lost the creative edge, but they tried to buy it by purchasing Pixar.
I think that ZOOTOPIA and MOANA show that Disney still has some creative life. But nearly everything else in 2016 (THE JUNGLE BOOK, ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, FINDING DORY, PETE'S DRAGON) was a retread or remake. Disney's other original film, THE BFG, was a flop--at the box office, if not creatively.
The available track times imply that it'll all fit on a standard 74-minute disc (total comes to 68 mins), and the Disney music preorder site makes no mention of the digital release, just the CD pressing. It also seems odd that they'd leave the "Transformation" finale off the pressed disc, so I'm assuming it's all there.
Interesting that the song "Human Again" from the extended version on the DVD/BD releases and the stage show has been omitted from this film (based on what's on the album).

If I remember correctly, "Human Again" was included in the 3D cinematic release a few years ago.
Regarding the trailer, Ewan McGregor's French accent as Lumiere is terrible.

with mixed feelings best song: a 58 sek track with Kevin Kline showing real emotions and reminds me of the original cast recordings quality
the Gaston track an performance of Luke Evans and Josh Gad is fine and well executed. very well
most of the other songs sounds so generic
Emma Watsons Voices sounds processed and "Beauty and the Beast " by Emma Thompson ( i generally like her ) ...is the most downer strange accent and the timing with words and music sounds so wrong in place, nothing from the magic of the original.
the score part on cd 2
i wished they integrated the score with the songs in film order, the narritive of the story is missing..and the sound. seems to be normalized to death.
I have seen the animated version and the Broadway musical for Beauty and the Beast. To me this lends itself quite well to a live version. The trailer looks good. However, I'm rather confused as to how Dumbo and The Little Mermaid can be made into a live version, but Disney talent may prevail.
DUMBO sounds as if it's being completely re-conceived. Apparently, there's some rival, "evil" circus owner...
WTF!
The original was from the point of view of animal characters. This is an entirely different creation.
On the other hand, as I recall, the original DUMBO is only 64 minutes long, or so; so I can understand the trend to expand it.

What is the score itself like (musically speaking, not sound quality)? Similar to the animated version?
Depending on the answer to this, I've been toying with the possibility of integrating the original's songs with this version's score (as well as the few score tracks on the animated version's ST).
Based on the clips I've heard, and most of the reviews, Disney should have dubbed the actors' singing voices with real singers.

But it won't be DUMBO.
Sounds completely inane....
I guess for this one they're going on name recognition. It was a much needed hit in it's day, not sure what kind interest Dumbo has nowadays.

Ditto! Surprised no one has mentioned the score yet. Is it any good?
i ve only heard the score cd once and wasn't to impressed. Haven't seen the film yet, it general sounds very dark, more like the usual CGI laden blockbuster
there are a few nice moments ( the integrated "home" theme from the broadway musical) but the score did not grab me like the original one. the track "transformation" is similar to the old one but the end of the track-> kind of fade out (due to separating songs from score ? ) and this is a real downer, if you remember the glorious finale of the animated version , ending in the wonderful rendition of "beauty and the beast " song with full chorus ! nothing here i'll give it a second try today, but after listingen this 2CD version, i put in the original one and ... what a classic and satisfying album.

That's because they've strangely kept that on the first disc, in "Beauty and the Beast (Finale)." The score is wonderful. It's great hearing Menken tackle his themes with a larger orchestra and his action music is dramatically better than what he wrote in the early 90s.

I agree that the large orchestra kicks ass, but the quiet parts seem to really be missing the dark beauty of the original...dunno.
