I got my copy today at a pre-Brexit exchange rate of just £18 delivered!
Only watched a few minutes so far, but already the HD allowed me to spot things I couldn't see on the youtube version (ie. my good friend Kev and I - very faintly in the darkness of the audience!).
A superb souvenir of an incredible evening!

Did you see me? ;-)

As far as audio goes, all the labeling on the insert says "DTS Surround" - and I was also bummed it was implying a lossy format - but the audio is actually DTS-HD Master at 48/24. In the menu selection under "audio" is the only place it's labelled correctly. (And it shows up as DTS Master on my processor.)

Thanks for verifying this. Wouldn't have been a deal breaker if it had been lossy for me, but it's nice to see them getting the max out of this presentation, especially given the high end production values of the concert itself which was top notch.

Would be cool if we got a 3D recording for future concerts but as for now this will work fine. big grin

Watching it right now. Honestly, the DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio is a bit weak. I really have to pump up the volume to get it to sound the least bit powerful. The PCM 2.0 expanded using DPLII sounds as good or better and in standard stereo sounds great as well. Not sure what happened with the 5.1 track. It's not defective or anything, but it does sound a bit compressed. The video is alright. A lot of compression artifacts that are likely due to this being shot on digital video I suppose. The video is 1080i, by the way. It's great having this concert on physical media and it's certainly better than watching it on Youtube.

Nice to see a review of this posted at Blu-Ray.com today - blu-ray.com has a decent reach amongst movie and home theater buffs so this release is certain to get some broader notice outside of Varese's usual dedicated film score buying lot (you know, us smile ):

I was vaguely visible a few times (both from the stage, and at least once from one of those swooping camera shots) on the YouTube version, near the front about 3 or 4 rows back, stage left. Should be clearer on the Blu-ray, I hope.

I remember where you guys were sat, so I'll keep my eyes peeled when I get my copy! (Only ordered it with THE ROCKETEER this week!)

Does it go through all the intros in dual languages as it did live, or is it edited for just the English intros?

Watched it the other night. It was fantastic! I am jealous of those who were in attendance. What an amazing time it must have been. Thanks again Varese!

" This was reportedly Horner's last talk about his music prior to his death."

well it wasnt, he did another one in London a few months later when they played TITANIC live.

My tears started to flow about 45 seconds into Braveheart. I think James and I may have started tearing up at the same time and the tears did not stop there. I had to pause a couple times to gather myself. So emotional.

I will treasure this film/concert forever. Just tremendous! The orchestra and David Newman were right on as were all the vocalists. Deborah Cox looked ravishing- what a beauty.

I too have to "pump up the volume" very high to get what I want.

Thank you VARESE.

Would love to get this. Is the blu ray region free?

Received it yesterday. Great release, nice menu and the 1080i source looks decent projected large. This is a concert that's worth revisiting with a great first half (A.I., ID4, Star Trek, ...) and the Horner concert itself features so many standout performances. Seeing it again, I was amazed at how well Avatar plays amongst the many highlights. It's a score that I didn't care for in the movie but has grown on me.

I concur with the previous posters that the surround track could pack some more punch volume wise, but easily corrected by boosting it a bit more (the subwoofer was very active). The Q&A session is a great bonus feature as I didn't get to attend that, very interesting.

According to the listing on Varese's website, this is already (and unfortunately) sold out!

I found this incredibly moving and had to fight back tears several times. Not just because of his beautiful music but just seeing how moved (and surprised) he was by the love he received. Great performances all around and a very interesting symposium where it was clear how desillusioned he had become by the Hollywood style of things.

It does say "Temporarily Sold Out" so hopefully it's just sold out of first pressing and more will be on the way. I don't think this was a limited release ?

No, it says "Temporarily Out Of Stock". That's not the same as sold out. I guess the disc is selling so well so they have to print more copies and it will be in stock again soon.

It confusingly says both. Temporarily out of stock and order button grayed out saying sold out. I can understand the mistake. Thought sold out till your comment made me look again.
