Why didn't they use the final poster??? That's a truly ugly cover...

Probably this is what the studio provided for artwork for the cover.

If the score is atmospheric, then it'll maybe stand independent of the visuals. But people are entitled to some indignation. This film is trying to invoke a new attitude to the material, but that's not enough. Yes, we're being negative. But we're coming from somewhere. Other than Marvel.

I honestly could care less what opinion people have of the movie. I'm just tired of reading about it in a thread about the score. I'm tired of reading about opinions on the poster, on the trailer, on the casting, on the film, blah blah blah...in a thread titled "MARCO BELTRAMI: GODS OF EGYPT". There is an entire third of this forum dedicated to non-film score discussion but people are just filling time waiting for the score to come out (I guess) with wholly negative opinions about a film they haven't even seen yet, and the negativity wears extremely thin, I'm just really tired of it. That's why I'm anxious for the score to come out so that hopefully people will begin discussing the music, perhaps some modicum of positivity and enthusiasm may peek through, and this thread can serve its purpose. I can't understand why, if so many people want to discuss the film, they won't simply start a thread on the other side of the forum -- non-film score discussion. But it doesn't matter if I don't understand, it's going to happen anyway, so whatever. The bottom line is I should just listen to the score and maybe reading this thread is not the place for someone like me.

Then I can tell you the music is epic. If you love THE MUMMY RETURNS and THE SEVENTH SON, you'll enjoy it. Terrific score.

It reminds me of Rupert Murdoch, who tweeted that 'last time I looked Egyptians were white', and couldn't see what the fuss was about either. The predominance of blacks in Egypt was so great that it's perverse NOT to include a few. See de Bosio's 'Moses the Lawgiver' and even DeMille's attempt.

It's telling that the only occasions I can think of where Egyptians were actually portrayed as being anything like black were in Asterix and Cleopatra and an episode of awful DIC cartoon Maxie's World (where the two most buffoonish characters went visiting "Bodacious Babes In History" with the ladies played by the show's female cast, and Cleopatra was played by the show's token black character Simone).

What does the bold signify?

Suggestions that someone came down with Giacchino's Disease come track-naming time (hence "Snakes On A Plain").

Actually, Beltrami was using puns in his track titles before Giachino. He just doesn't use them on all his titles like Giachino does.

Christopher Young did it before either of them... and Giacchino doesn't use them on all his titles either. Just as he doesn't have one C in his last name. smile

Well, maybe not all then but definitely a lot!

Yeah, seriously? roll eyes

Amazon have the score listed as 18th March, so I'll bundle it with some other scores I have on order with them.

Varese has 25th... I assume they will have more correct information...

But by all means this one is a must!

Yeah, I did wonder that myself. Anyway, looking forward to this.

First few cues are included on the official website... the main theme is almost entirely absent and heard only ones... still some great ones there...

I'm cautiously optimistic about the score if it is indeed in the MUMMY RETURNS mode!

Just bought it on iTunes. Definitely hear a little Silvestri in it. Maybe even a bit of Rózsa, but I'm not sure. With the Seventh Son and this one, Ben Hur should be great.

Just gave it a listen on Spotify. Turned it off halfway through, cause it bored me. This is nowhere as exciting as Silvestri's The Mummy Returns.

Will give it another try though

today Rotten Tomatoes released the critics' consensus on the movie...certified rotten...

"Gods of Egypt: God-Awful"

poor Alex Proyas (a costly misfire for a director I generally like) and poor Beltrami..so much work for nothing.. BTW the NPR critic mentioned the score: "a score just a few notes off from Lawrence of Arabia"

So...the concept of 'guilty pleasure' is foreign to everyone here mewling about the movie? Good to know.

The film looks like it has that potential and hearing about the score (shades of SEVENTH SON, THE MUMMY RETURNS and LAWRENCE OF ARABIA?!) gives me a good feeling.

Sometimes the guilt outweighs the pleasure. Sometimes it just doesn't look like there's much pleasure to be had. Sometimes the fact that a movie looks dumb doesn't mean it looks like dumb fun.
