Well I think the 2nd edition was an after thought because the first edition sold so well. (and so fast) It really was a blessing people ever got a chance to own the box set, after the 1st edition sold out to begin with.

No, I'm pretty sure (almost 100 percent certain) that FSM said there would be further editions as warranted before the first edition was even available. They did this so people wouldn't complain (about the number of copies being misrepresented) when the second edition came out. Not an afterthought at all, but a plan from the beginning. Also, I thought Lucas said the blue box was something he intended to keep in print (not as sure about this). Which is why I was surprised when SAE said it was close to selling out... what about a third edition? Will there be one???????

Well the wording was dodgy at the time. It was announced as a "limited edition of 1000" (or what ever it was) I don't recall Lucas saying there was going to be a second pressing before hand. But perhaps I missed that statement. Anyway I do agree with you, its a set that should stay in print.

There will be a first pressing of 3,000 box sets. We have not decided upon any "limited" status; it will be a case of supply and demand. It costs a small fortune to manufacture, so if the first 3,000 were to sell out, we may do more copies in the same configuration, an altered "second edition" -- or nothing at all. It will all depend! If too many people tell us, "Ah, I'll get it later, it's not limited" you can bet we'll elect to stop at the 3,000 -- or throw half the run in the dumpster to get our money back on the first half.

Maybe at one point the plan was to keep more FSM titles in print as warranted, but as time (and trickling sales?) went on that plan changed.

I hope we'll see the first score released individually at some point -- I'm not that interested in the other scores or the book.

And 'cause I'm very interested in book & I think it will take 2-3 or more years, till someone else will re-release part 1, I ordered it week ago and now waiting for this (3-5 weeks, what a shame! frown)!
Also, I think that if I love Williams music, why can't I get satisfaction from others?

Still not sure why it's "infamous".

Some of us are *dying* to know...

Why is it infamous? Wow. Wowie-wow wow. Anyone care to embellish this, by all means, feel free,

Once upon a time, a certain board member opened up his big bazoo about this project months in advance of it's release, To LK's mortal chagrin....

Grab that Blue Box while you can...while it's likely that the original film's score will get reissued at some point, the sequel scores might not (and the 1988 cartoon scores very unlikely), and the book is worth the price of the set by itself.

There seems to be a copy of the First Edition of "The Blue Box" at Moviemusic.com for 149.00, which will still be a lot cheaper when these show up on eBay or Amazon. And it's the First Edition. Some might care about that.

NOW GONE from moviemusic.com

Ridiculous. I recognize at least one of those sellers as posters here at FSM. I suspect the other two are as well.

Thanks for the background info.

Wow, I don't remember any of that.

If the Blue Box can sell 6000 units altogether, does this mean the LLL STAR TREK TOS box could eventually go through its 6000 and be gone as well?

I'm a happy owner of both sets. I did not expect Blue-2 to ever sell out, and here we are. I wasn't expecting TOS to ever sell out either and now I wonder. Thoughts? 6000 is supposed to be a huge run by today's standards.

I wonder if FSM pressed all 3,000 copies of the 2nd Edition of The Blue Box or didn't bother to press the rest because sales had gone down. Makes me wonder. It would be nice to know.
