I'll agree with that. Both are brilliant musicians but Williams always took an extra step that Horner, at least in post-1985 or so, never bothered with. Fella got "comfortable" in his career a little too early on in my book... That said, I'll put KRULL right up on the same pedestal as Williams' very best work (as well as Rozsa's, Herrmann's and anyone else's really...)

Love Horner's music but have never been able to get into Krull. Something just doesn't click for me on that one.

Krull is fun and I listened to it a ton back in the day, but the syrupy-ness of it doesn't stand up as well over time IMO. I have a similar problem with a lot of his more rhapsodic romantic scores, especially his more Celtic-flavored stuff, just gets overly saccharine and angsty. But that's just me, and I don't feel bad because there's PLENTY of other Horner out there to enjoy. Fair point about him staying in his comfort zone, btw. I hadn't thought of it that way before and it really rings true.

Had a good time seeing this tonight. A fun sequel that goes off in a different direction in the second half. JW1 haters better stay at home though, there's nothing for you here.

Enjoyed the score for what it's worth. Quite a few nice callbacks to the Williams themes, although very low key. Seems all the themes from the previous entry were quoted too, along with some new ones. Lots more choral work. Surprised Gia didn't use more percussion.

By the way, why do we have two prominent threads dedicated to this score/movie?...it's weird..
While I doubt JW1 haters overall will widely change their minds in regards to this, I've surprisingly witnessed a great number of folks who felt this was much better executed.

That long-line theme at 3:04 in the Main Title of Krull is one of the most exhilirating pieces of music ever. Go find that section. It’s incredible.

All i know of KRULL is the 20 minute suite on Label X compilation. Excellent!
I have been tempted to more fully explore the score ( and see the film). But i suspect i have the creme de creme.

Yup, what this guy said!

KRULL is a score that really ought to be heard in full, like few others - even BEN-HUR has plenty of cues I skip over in search of the next highlight, but KRULL is of another order. Every piece in it is really one mini-symphony unto itself. With something close to 90 minutes of music, there's perhaps only two, maybe three cues I routinely skip; just about every note here feels essential and just drips with inspiration and enthusiasm (and TECHNIQUE out the goddamn whazoo!). It's basically one gigantic opera without words, and any composer from any era would be lucky to call it their own.

Seriously. Just get the full thing, don't listen to the naysayers here, their stance on the music, while respectable, is utter mystifying to me.

This one is the absolute, unquestionable pinnacle of Horner's romanticism, enthusiasm and pure, unbridled musicality. It's a masterpiece in every sense of the word (and yes, 3:04-ish is recommended listening INDEED; I think only Rozsa, Delerue and John Scott otherwise wrote themes as long-lined as that primary identity played ever-so triumphantly at that moment):

Surely there's a 7-second stinger in JW:FK somewhere he could have used to round out the album. "Ain't That a Pachystingalosaurus?" or something?

EDIT: NM This is a digital album anyway. So he could have added several stingers. My surface-rippling dashboard cup remains half empty.

Saw this last night.
SEE IT on a BIG screen!
It looks EPIC!!
We've come a long way from the attempt of the first film ('93) to try and at least be Planet Earth based.
If you thought JURASSIC WORLD was cartoony/comic book, this one is out there with Pluto.
Seriously, the 2nd half of the film is pure Scooby Doo.
BUT!!
If you're in the right mood and park your brain in the foyer, it's two hours of pure, fun-filled exciting/tense popcorn entertainment.
It should also traumatise some little kids for years!
The first hour is the standard Cartoon Land Dino/Island/Peril escapades, before things go all gothic and haunted house in a real change of pace.
But I thought it all worked splendidly.
And MG delivers a solid/spectacular choir-fest that livens things up tremendously. WAY better than his last score for J-World.
A good time was had by all smile

The other JW-FK thread feels like a pre-match discussion and this one feels like a post-match discussion thread.
To me, anyway.

Just finished my first listen to the album and I think I'm going to like this, looking forward to hearing it in context when I see the film later today. That said, what the hell has he done to the 'Jurassic Park' theme at the start of the end credits?! The florid swirling music that's been added around the solo trumpet completely undercuts what worked to make the original so simple, noble, adventurous and elegant. It's truly grotesque!

No, blame whoever named the old thread "JURASSIC WORLD 2" rather than "JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM". I see that it has been edited now, however. In either case, these should have been "merged". Not sure if such a thing is possible here on FSM.

Nah. Much better to have a 'Battle Of The Threads', like my LAST JEDI one, also with LeBlanc.
J-Leb starts his so early, by the time the film rolls around, they're all flabby and arguey.

Is this a CD-R release in the USA and a pressed CD in Europe and UK?

Mine arrived this morning in central California and it looks to me that's it's a pressed release. It is a digipak with a booklet crediting all the musicians.

Thanks bagby.
The last score - JURASSIC WORLD - wasn't widely available in record shops in the UK. I don't think HMV ever got a copy in.
It was/is easily available on Amazon and Ebay though, as a digi-pak. Don't think there was a jewel case release.
Anyone in the UK picked up their copy of JP-FK yet? Is it a digi-pak like the last one?
