.....I have a question, what do you think I should wear, I'm not doing a tux, probably slacks and nice shirt and/or tie??? HELP.....

Be prepared to empty your pockets totally and walk through a metal detector. The Academy is very high on security at public events.

Very good point Manny, be prepared to leave any cameras or cell phones behind.

They don't want any unauthorized recordings, photos, etc.

I need some recommendations for food when we come out to see all of you – Craig and I love Tex-Mex / Mexican food – any of you loco locals can recommend anything that you may think is stellar?

EL POLLO LOCO is a chain that has FANTASTIC grilled Mexican chicken, plus other Mexican stuff. Lotsa locations in LA.

EL COYOTE was on Beverly in the Hollywood/Miracle Mile-ish area and was molto-famous. I don't know if it is still there. I can't speak to the food since I never went there.

EL COYOTE is wonderful and not too expensive either. Plus it is walkable from the New Beverly Cinema.

Lukas -

Is it okay to bring some homebrew to the FSM gathering? I'll have an IPA ready that my buddy & I brewed for his CD release party June 6. We only kegged 5 gallons of a 10 gallon batch. So, I'll have bottles to share. Let me know.

Folks -

For those who like good beer, Blue Palms Brew House on Hollywood Blvd. is a good post FSM place to go (http://www.bluepalmsbrewhouse.com/Site_2/Home.html). It's just west of Gower in the same building as The Music Box theater (a couple blocks east of Pantages).

As a fellow homebrewer and uber IPA lover, I'd be happy to sample some of your brew, wherever you can find a place to share it!!! Thanks so much for making the offer. Cheers!

David,

You might want to re-think EL COYOTE. It's on the boycott list after their staff supported Prop. 8.

I thought the manager of the restaurant who was the "staff" that supported prop 8 had quit.
Wouldn't want to destroy an old Hollywood institution if they made amends.

darkdel, you guys are awesome- some great composers coming down.

This is probably out of the question, but I thought it was worth a shot to ask if Thomas Newman could be asked to attend lol.

Thanks!

I thought that issue was put to rest after the manager resigned?

Anyways, I'd recommend another spot since the giant cockroach I saw at El Coyote the one and only time I've been there has been enough of a reason to stay away! wink

Also, it's Geoff Zanelli. Not "Geoff Zandelli".

The greasy, indifferent slop they dish up is plenty reason enough, cucarachas or no.

But wasn't the restaurant whose manager had supported Prop. 8 and caused a brouhaha in fact Casita del Campo (another purveyor of mediocre Mexican food) in Silverlake?

You'll never let that go, will you?

I've eaten twice at El Coyote (both times with FSM message board posters!) and it was fine.

I'll offer that a friend says that the food will be great at any Mexican restaurant that has Aztec calendar painted on the wall. smile

I'll also toss out El Tepayac (sp?) but it's a drive away, in East LA, which gets raves from certain types.

They're the home of the gi-mongous Hollenbeck burrito. I think they'll even give it to you free if you can eat it all in one sitting. I had one once and it was a whole lotta rice, so I can't recommend it entirely.

There's also a different, well known, restaurant at Olympic and Western, but folks raved more about the margaritas than anything.

And don't forget Lucy's, across from glamorous Paramount Studios. Again, I never ate there but I hear the glamour of sitting where Linda Ronstadt and Jerry Brown ate is palpable.
