Can anyone who has seen Solo tell me what the point of his crazy crashing move to shake off a tie fighter was and why he thought to do that move? It made no sense. He was chased by one tie fighter, does this move and then the tie fighter just flies itself into a rock for no reason. And he celebrates as though he did something. I thought that was bizarre. It's a ahane the film did so badly it was serviceable fun.

Seemed like a good idea at the time?

Wanderer, I'm glad you have such a high rating to The Imitation Game. It is such a well-made and wonderfully acted movie. It is still a shock in this day and age that countries in the 40's and 50's still jailed men and women because of their sexual orientation.

What do you mean 40's and 50's? How about today?!

Solium, good point. I guess I was thinking about America and Britain and those laws that jailed people for their sexual orientation. Forgot that certain places today will actually hang or shoot people for their orientation. Duh on me.

Winchester 73
1950
B/w James stewart classic. He wins a top-end model of a winchester in a sharpshooting contest but then has it stolen. Story follows him tracking the thief, during which he encounters love interest Shelley winters and joins up with troopers to see off an attack by indians on the warpath. (The chief is a young Rock hudson and one of the soldiers is Tony Curtis). Good finale rifle shootout in the rocks.
7.7 out of 10.

First time I tried watching The Mummy I was so horrified by the horrendously bad CGI I stopped watching after 15 minutes. I gave it a second go sometime later and loved the film. The most enjoyable adventure film since Raiders of the Lost Ark. Love the characters, actors, action, humor, music (for a 90's Jerry score) it all worked. The sequel was almost as good but with even worse CGI! And yes, Rachel Weisz was sexy as hell.

Stranger in paso bravo
Anthony steffen. 1968
Just-about watchable revenge spaghetti western. Steffen comes out of prison and goes after the villain who killed his wife and child. Decent score by Lavagnino. Director Salvatore Rosso's one and only western.
Currently being screened on movies4men in uk.
6.5 out of 10.

Jesse james
1939
Early colour western classic, tyrone power (jesse) and henry fonda (frank). And Randolph scott, speaking in such an odd accent i thought he was being dubbed!). The film depicts how the james brothers went on the run initially after fighting back against landgrabbing railroad agents who kill their mother by throwing a bomb through their window, and move into train robbing and then banks. Covers the northfield raid, shown here as an ambush and the infamous killing by Bob ford (john carradine) and his brother.
8.2 out of 10 (extra for the year it was made). Will keep an eye out for Return of Frank James next, Fonda out for revenge!

Nb looking up afterwards it seems reality was the "bomb" thrown into their home by Pinkertons killed their little brother and seriously wounded their mother. She survived, however, although she lost an arm in the attack.

Thats really good of you to show such mock enthusiasm El bruco.
I didnt think any one was reading them and they were just serving as a defiant 50s outpost in a boring sea of modern claptrap, yet more superhero films and tired remakes.
Glad you are so keen, ive got dozens more every day. smile
