Coulda/shoulda been a film score department:

Stravinsky's Symphony in Three Movements was composed in the early/mid '40s but reminds me in parts of JW and JG's work from three decades later (shades of Jaws, Capricorn One, etc.). Check out the clip of the first movement below.

And how about a taste of The Omen, from the third movement of the Symphony of Psalms (@ 2:56)?*

*I couldn't find a youtube clip of the version conduced by Stravinsky himself as included on the CD referenced above, but Solti does it justice.

Genesis - Selling England by the Pound

Thanks for that, Johnny. This thread has suddenly become the classical/jazz thread for whatever reason. Good to see someone post good ol' ROCK music here!

Rock is dead! Long live rock!

NP (not rock, but it sounds like they're banging some rocks together in parts of track 1):

Chris Isaak- Forever Blue

"No reason left for living still there's a lot to do.
New tears to cry, old songs to sing.
And feel forever blue.
And be forever blue"

Excellent choice! One of my favorite Hovhaness recordings, in fact.

You've got some great picks, there, too, Essankay! Bartok is one of my favorites, and I recently acquired this Schoenberg/Boulez box set but have barely scratched the surface so far: http://www.amazon.com/Pierre-Boulez-conducts-Schoenberg-Arnold/dp/B00AK3X3U6

Thanks, Josh. I agree, Bartok rocks! That Schoenberg/Boulez set is very reasonable and mighty enticing, but it would be duplicating a lot of material for me and I can't afford that luxury these days, unfortunately.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...
